Default Birdie

We lost our male budgie yesterday. His name was Birdie. We were all very sad, but my 10 year old took it really hard. He is better today.
I am wondering if we should get another male for the female. Will she be lonely?
Thanks,
Mary

I am sorry to hear of your loss. It's always hard when you lose a family pet.

I'm so sorry for your loss! I would probably get another Budgie if I had two and one died. Just my opinion though.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I am sure you wish you could "cushion" your 10 year old so he wouldn't have to go through this kind of emotional event....But I am glad to hear he is dong better.

How long were your budgies together? If it was a long time, like more than a year, then your current budgie would probably appreciate a friend. I would say you could get either a male or a female; it doesn't really matter.

Do you know how birdie died? My only concern would be that if it was an illness, your current little sweetheart may be a carrier so she could potentially pass it on to the new bird. If you do get another one, please make sure you quarantine for 30-45 days in a separate cage and ideally in a separate room of the house. That would give you time to see if either budgie was ill and prevent it from being passed on to the other.

I'm so very sorry to hear about poor little Birdie. My heart goes out to you and your family! And yes, I agree, you should get another male companion for your female budgie. My condolances.
