Default Goodbye Phinny - you were a great budgie

Phinny was acting a little strange a few weeks ago, and as she was 7 years old and getting on a bit I was a little worried. However she perked up again and had been loving life being her usual cheeky, noisy self. Playing with, preening and annoying her friend Peronelle, and greeting and chirping to me.

Yesterday I left her playing with her toys. I came home feeling heavy hearted, having found out on FB that a friend's 7 year old niece had died after a short and sudden illness. I did not know her but had been praying for her recovery. This horrible news was all that was on my mind. I said hello to the birds as I entered my room, then really looked at the cage and saw Phinny sprawled with her wings out on the cage floor. I realised with a start that she had died. Compared to a child's death it is a small event, and I almost felt bad to grieve, but it released the tears I was already holding in.

I took her body from the cage, folded her wings and gently stroked her feathers. She looked so alive except for her sunken, dull eyes. I made a coffin from a fancy box and gently laid her in it. This morning I buried her under a rose bush in my garden. I don't know if budgies have souls but I like to imagine her in heaven keeping the little girl company. A beautiful, bright yellow bird flying free.

I personally think Heaven would be a pretty lonely place without little birdie souls flitting around! Rip little one.

Again, I'm very sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is to say the final goodbye to a much beloved little friend. Try to take comfort in the fact that Phinny had a good, happy life while under your care and cherish the precious memories of the 7 years you have been blessed with her company.
I hope you and Peronelle will feel better soon

Rest in peace, Phinny. You were much loved and will be missed.

I am so very sorry for the loss of your little friend. Remember the good times and you have the special memories in your heart. You were a wonderful owner and your budgie loved you so very much he new you loved him..

Somewhere over the rainbow
They say that dreams come true
Some day over the rainbow
I'll sit awhile with you

Gonna wrap my arms around you
And whisper in your ear
Gonna tell you all the love I feel
How my heart holds you so dear

Gonna lovingly gaze at you
Let my heart skip as you smile
Than tenderly I'll kiss you
Hold you close for just awhile

Yes, somewhere over the rainbow
They say that dreams come true
But I knew my dream came true
That day I met you
