Unhappy I'm Back to TB, but I'm One Budgie Short

Some of you may remember me. I took a hiatus last year due to school finals and needing time to prepare for the birth of my third child. I left with two happy healthy budgies, Lasso and Yazzi, whom I planned on breeding this spring if life around me allowed.

I have been poking around TB for a little while trying to get reacquainted with the site before coming back full force. Needless to say, I am back with awful news. A few weeks ago, on the morning of cage cleaning day, I found a lifeless Lasso. He was only 2.5 years old and he appeared to be extremely healthy and was very happy. Nothing was out of the ordinary and I had just been talking to him before I went to bed the previous night.

He was very closely bonded with Yazzi, moreso than she was with him, I assumed, because she seemed to be taking it quite well. Much better than I was. She called occasionally, but seemed fine otherwise. This actually angered me to the extent I didn't want to even look at her because she was singing and chirping and preening as if nothing had happened and she had been a single budgie all her life.

It took a week before I began to feel sorry for her. Maybe she was mourning, but in her own way. I felt awful for despising her that past week when she probably needed me most and I felt that I owed it to her to be sure she didn't spend her life alone. Afterall, she's never really been alone. I adopted her as a freshly weaned baby right out of the clutch.

I wasn't sure if I could stand to see another budgie in Lasso's place. I wasn't sure that I could stand seeing another budgie feeding Yazzi or preening Yazzi or dancing on Lasso's perch. It took my husband to remind me that I wasn't replacing Lasso, I was only replacing the lost companionship. Nothing could ever replace Lasso. He was one-of-a-kind, my first sweet budgie. We buried him beneath my favorite little hibiscus -- the hibiscus I brought home as a tiny little thing that almost died from irresponsible apartment maintenance crews and bug infestation and unlikely cold Florida weather that had to be nursed back to health several times. It finally got planted in the Earth when we bought our home this past year. I figured that miraculous little plant would somehow bring Lasso as much joy to be under as it brings me to know he's under it.

Sorry to hear about little Lasso. It's never easy losing any of our feathered friends. I also took time away from TB last year and am only back a short while. In that time my two senior birds, Reena and Reeno died. Heartbreaking, but we have to move on, keep loving our remaining birds. It's good that you have a little plot to visit and remember him by. Best wishes, and welcome back.

Welcome back to TB ..... And my condolences at the loss of your darling budgie. I can only guess at your grief. I know how I would feel if I lost Mista.

What a beautiful memorial you have for Lasso!

I'm so sorry to hear this... I know how hard it is to lose such a special little fellow. You have my deepest sympathies. Hopefully in time the hole left in your heart will be filled by the wonderful memories of the times passed with your precious boy.

Rest in peace, sweet Lasso. You were much loved and will be missed.

Tiffanie,

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss of sweet little Lasso. He had a wonderful happy life with you and I think the place you choice as his final resting place is perfect.

On a bit happier note, we are glad to have you back and I look forward to seeing you around the forums.
