Default My two budgies have both died.

I don't think it was fumes, but we do use teflon and the kitchen is downstairs. We've been cooking with teflon pans about once a week since we got budgies. We also never cook anything at over 400 degrees, though I know many say it doesn't matter the temperature, don't take the risk.
Sadly, I watched my other budgie die as well Wednesday which leads me to believe that it was a sickness they both got somehow and passed to each other. Before I get any more birds I'll be scrubbing the cage down and investigating their deaths to make sure it couldn't be prevented somehow next time. I am underage and my grandparents do not believe in spending money for a vet on an animal that costs $20, and the emergency walk in (only place that was open at the time) wanted $120 just to walk through the door. When I get my next bird, I'll be sure to find a vet beforehand and always have money set aside so that I can take him/her to the vet if need be.
In Indigo's final hours I watched him completely lose all strength, resorting to his wings to balance himself. His legs seemed to cease function, and when he tried to fly he would flap his wings far too slowly to lift off. Knowing his end was near, I skipped dinner to make sure his exit from this world was the least painful it could be. He knew he was going to die, so he stopped trying to hold on and gave up.
Taking him into my hands for his final minutes, I felt his heart stop beating on Wednesday, March 19th, 2014 at 9:16PM.

Oh no, I'm so very sorry for the loss of your two little darlings. How incredibly upsetting. Please accept my sincerest condolences.

Based on what you have said, it does sound like they had an illness that was passed between the two of them. Without a necropsy, it would be incredibly difficult to find out why. I'm also very sorry your grandparents aren't supportive of seeking vet care too; that is a very difficult situation to be in, but it sounds like you will be well prepared in the future.

Fly high and free Indigo and Sunny.

I am so sorry to hear of this sad news, it is always very hard when you are a younger member who is reliant on others for the care and welfare of your birds. I have moved your thread in to the In Memory section.
