Should I get another budgie
One of my budgies recently passed away from some form of avian tumour. He has left her partner all on her own now - should I get her a new friend? Would she be more accepting of a new male or a new female? :budgie:

She'd accept either one must most likely more to the male. Females tend to fight eachother. How long do you spend with her a day? If she is by herself for long periods of time then another budgie would be wise, but ifshe is with you for most of the day then it is up to you whether you want another budgie or not.

I was reading a post on another thread, there are people who have had 2 girls with no problem, it sounds like it becomes more of a problem when you have 2 girls and a single male.

Budgietom makes a good point about how much time you are able to spend with your lone bird. Some people have noticed their birds pining when they lose one of a pair so getting a new companion might be a good thing to do. If you do though don't forget to quarantine! There would be nothing worse than losing 3 in quick sucession. At least your current bird would be able to hear the new addition and know a friend was on the way.

I have two females living together that get along fine! They are happy to spend their time preening each other. :) There is the occassional bickering (which happened more when they were younger), but never anything violent. Just working out the pecking order.

I would think that a budgie would always appreciate another budgie friend. :)

Budgies are flock birds so its a great idea to get yours a friend.:)

I try to put myself in their place thinking how I would feel if I were the only human in a flock of Budgies without any others of my own kind to interact with. I would love my flock of Budgies, but something would always be missing because the Budgies would never be able to understand me and my needs as well as another human.

I know my Pippin is much happier now that she has Mikko.:)
