Default Is it normal to feel so much sadness?

I am gutted to say that my Joey passed away on Saturday night. I only got him in August and our time together has been the happiest. He was so funny and cheeky and always brought happiness to anyone that met him.

His death was a massive shock and unexpected which makes the news even more difficult to bear.

I feel so much sadness that I cannot get on with my everyday life.

Please can anyone reassure me that this pain will go eventually? I keep thinking of things I can do to honour his memory to help me heal quicker. People keep saying get another bird but I just can't possibly replace him.

I am very sorry you lost your bird.

You can never replace him, but getting another bird and taking care of him can help you heal faster.
I have lost many animals/birds and I miss them very much, but the pain is not there anymore, just joy; all the good memories of us together makes me happy.

Thank you for your response.

I will consider getting a new bird when the pain goes.

I just hope he wasn't in too much pain.

I miss my boy

One thing I can assure you is that yes the pain will eventually fade, but you will always have the loving memories that you and Joey shared..it hurts to lose something you cared for so much, but just remember Joey knew you loved him , as far as replacing Joey you can never replace the budgie that steals your heart, but maybe you can get another bird to help ease the pain of losing Joey..they may make you feel a little better knowing that your giving another bird the chance of loving him or her , I hope the pain eases for you.RIP sweet little Joey fly free.

Rest in Peace, sweet handsome Joey. Keep his cute face and happy song close to your heart, and he will be with you forever. Soon the grief will be replaced with wonderful memories. And when the time is right, I hope you will find another bird to love. Joey would like to know that you found another little budgie to share your love and good care. Hugs to you. I am so sorry for your loss.

Yes, what you are feeling is completely normal! It was a shock and happened very recently, so feel grief in the way that your body wants you to feel it. Then, after some time has passed, make your body do normal things (watch films, go for a walk, shower regularly) and then your mind will catch on and heal.

I'm really sorry to hear about your budgie and know how difficult it is. Chin up and remember that your birdie enjoyed every day with you!

Yes it is normal to feel like that. When we lose a pet we grieve. My husband had to take ***** to get through his days when we lost our dog.
When I think about my last budgie Marvin (who passed last year) I sill feel the pain in my heart. I have 2 new babies and am very happy now but we must go through the grieving period. ((hugs))

Thank you everyone. Your responses have me cry and feel better at the same time.

We have buried him in the garden with a special plant and I am going to buy a special frame to have in place of his cage next to me where he always sat.

Such a shame that they have to be taken away from us.

I recently lost my cat, an old rescue I got from the pound. He was the cuddliest, most affectionate cat I've ever seen, always coming to greet me, preferably lying on my lap all day. I had him for a bit over a year when his kidney's started failing and he had seizures. He was put down a few weeks ago.
Right after and for some weeks I felt really lost. The apartment was horribly empty without him and I couldn't fall asleep without him cuddled up next to me. That's when I decided to bring over my old budgie from my mom's place. The grief gets less over time, but having something to focus your energy on really helps too. When you're ready, do consider getting a new bird or other pet. Death and grief is part of owning pets, but it's worth it for the joy they bring during their lives. The best of luck in the upcoming time, it *****.

Budgies can be special friends,we share wonderful moments together and they are so cute and beautiful..It is difficult when our budgie friend dies..I lost 5 budgies and 5 more left the cage.I was sad but they had a good life in my home,I wouldn't change my memories for anything!I hope you feel better soon!
