Default Coconut RIP

Unfortunetly Coconut (white/blue) was killed this morning.

My door was left open a small crack, I didn't know it. I got up this morning, looked at the door which looked closed, and opened their cage to let them roam around. Jumped in bed and kept an eye on them. Well, Coconut decided to go near the door, I didn't see a problem with that cause I was watching her from my bed. Then I saw the door was very slightly open and jumped out of bed but it was too late, she ran out.

At that point I went after her, trying to make her go into another room, and hoping to god the dog wasn't inside! Coconut decided the living room was the best place to be, and made a straight line for it no matter what I did. And the dog was in the living room. The moment I heard the jingling of his collar I jumped for coconut hoping to catch her before the dog but our dog got her first. I grabbed our dog as quick as possible and luckily he knows the drop command very well and dropped her, and put him outside. Unfortunetly Coconut's legs where already broken and she was barely alive. I wrapped her in a towel and did the only thing I could, put her next to Lime to for comfort. She died with Lime next to her.

It's not my dogs fault, he was doing what comes natural to him when it comes to "prey."

Rest In Piece Coconut

Thank you.

At this moment, I'm more worried about how Lime is going to take it. They where very bonded to each other!

I am sorry for your loss - are your birds flighted? Flighted, Coconut could have flown away from the dog?
Having flighted birds can be the best solution when you have a variety of pets. You let the birds out in a room they can fly in safely & then keep the other pets out. Lots of perches in the room. If a door opens they may fly out but less likely to be caught. Around our place, when we leave the room, we face inwards if the birds are out - to stop them following or getting caught in the door itself. My birds will go on the floor but only if they are certain they are safe.
