Unhappy Lost the Love of My Life

I stumbled across this site as I was trying to find someone who cared about their bird as much as I did. I did not know there are so many people who care so much and it has made me feel better.

I recently lost the "love of my life" two weeks ago today and my heart still hurts. I made the major mistake of assuming the dog would NEVER hurt her and I learned a very hurtful lesson. She trusted me and I let her down. I wish I had a site like this to remind of the dangers of other animals to her. If one new person learns this from me then this will be done in Agnes's memory.

She was 10 years old and my constant companion. I'm sure I don't have to tell many of you of the bond that can develop--she was my best buddy. I will forever miss her. She has enhanced my life.

I just wanted to write something so she exists somewhere else besides my heart.

Thanks for listening.

Tracey (Agnes's Mom)

I am so sorry. I lost a wonderful budgie in October, and it still hurts.

Maybe it makes you feel better to hear that your budgie at 10 years reached a very good age. Many of our birds here don't make it to 5 years.

You are so right: If somebody else learns from your trageday..maybe a bird's life can be saved.....
Thanks for sharing your story.
Are you going to get another special bird, or maybe even two? I had some years without a bird, and now I regret ever living without their friendly chatter.

Sigrid

Default Thanks so much.

Thank you both for your kind words.

I wondered about getting another bird since I was convinced I had the "best" bird in the world. However, I decided to let my love for her expand into a new species (could never get another budgie) so this morning I purchased a baby African Grey who I will get sometime in June when he is 16-17 weeks old. I feel this way that I won't think of Agnes everytime I look at him.

So on to another adventure.

Oh my, I am so sorry for your loss. I think it is good that you are getting a new baby to focus on, while still remembering the good times with Agnes....

And I have to say that I have seen multiple pics from people that allow their birds to be loose while cats and/or dogs are in the room, shown right in the same pics...and I don't care how trusting those people say those animals are...it is NEVER worth the risk....and it is so good of you to share your experience and your sorrow to try and help save even one other bird from the same fate....

Tracey, so very sorry to hear about your Agnes. We all know how hard it is to lose our precious little ones. May all the wonderful memories of the past 10 years live in your heart. We never forget them. Good luck with your baby grey.

I'm so sorry to here about Agnes. I have a dog (flat coated retriever) and she has never hurt a fly, but I will be extra careful from now on.
Your grey is amazing! I would love to have on also, oh no I'm turning green!
