Oh, I'm so sorry! I also can't believe you have to go through this again right after losing Duke....it's a very traumatic experience. It does sound like he died of a broken heart..but please don't blame yourself. I certainly wouldn't have known they would purposely starve themselves to death either....and if he was active and otherwise normal, how could you have known? Still...it doesn't make the loss any easier, I know. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you, and we are all here for you as you work through your grief.

I am so sorry for your loss of Poofy. I am sure he just wanted so badly to be with Duke, but this surely does not make it easier on you. Hugs & prayers coming your way during this difficult time.

Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry to hear this. What a shock it must have been

The same thing happened to my bird Mango, when his partner Chewy died. Mango just decided that all he wanted to do was sleep, and I pretty much had to hand-feed him to keep him hanging on. But he made the choice I guess.. he just didnt want to be without Chewy.

Poofy must have been a really special and compassionate little bird to feel so attached to Duke. R.I.P little one.

Thank you, everyone. And yes, Poofy was a very special bird to have loved Duke so much, even though he was sick. He was never once mean to duke. I only had to seperate them because Poofy tried to love on Duke too much, feeding, preening, etc, and Duke was just too weak and couldn't have it anymore. He was seriously the most loving, compassionate creature I have ever encountered and my heart is seriously broken at his and Duke's loss. I have never seen two birds, or anything else for that matter, bond so tightly and unconditionally. I just can't believe he just chose to die and didn't want to move on. He was such an active, curious and fearless little bird. He had so much life in him. I guess his love for Duke outmeasured all of that. I hope there is some kind of after life or energy field or something where they can be together. They truly deserve it.

I am so incredibly sorry for your loss Budgier. My heart sank when I saw the title of this thread, especially knowing that Duke has not long been gone. I can certainly understand why you are not wanting to wake the budgies up in the morning; the fear you must feel every time.....

Please know my thoughts are with you.

How very sad. I have seen it happen in humans as a funeral director.

Our budgies are so loving it doesn't surprise me, it's just as hard to bear.

My thoughts are with you Budgier.
