Default My Female Budgie Passed Away

My beloved female budgie passed two nights ago - 12/07/14. May her soul rest in peace.
She and her male counterpart were my first birds(male is still alive and happy)....what irks me is I'm not able to understand what killed her. She was a beautiful chirpy bird until 3-4 months ago when she became somewhat quiet but was still eating and very active. Then around 1.5- 2 months back she started lifting her right leg for long periods....so I administered her a dose of painkiller/anti-inflammatory drug on the vet's advice and she was back to normal(she was still quiet but active).
But 4 days ago she again started lifting her right leg and was having problems in sitting on perch or if she came down to have food, she wasn't able to climb and was using her beak extensively for climbing & therefore I again administered her the same drug and did some internet search which said it could be due to intestinal tumor. The next day she became somewhat weak and almost stopped eating and drinking at which point I force - fed her and even kept her hydrated but she died the following night in front of my eyes which was a very painful sight.
I just checked her vent before she died and saw a very small round lump(size of the tiniest water bubble) near her vent. It was definitely not a case of egg binding....any idea people what it could be?
She provided me 4 beautiful babies and they are happy and cheerful. I came across this forum while doing random google search on budgies and I must say this forum has all the info. on budgies with best possible guidance. Thanks.......

I'm very sorry to hear of your budgie's passing... You have my deepest sympathies.
It's very comforting that you have kept her chicks and to know that her legacy lives on in them and you will always keep her memory close to your heart.
Unfortunately I can't shed a light on the causes of your budgie's death. I never had a bird to display those symptoms.

Rest in peace, little budgie momma. You were much loved and will be missed.

Despite the very sad circumstances, welcome to the forums!

Thank you all for your kind words and support. She was such a beautiful bird and was special to me as she was my first one. I was so shocked and sad at her death that I forgot to take a pic of her lump which I could have posted here and get some info. as to the cause of her condition.

I'm really sorry to hear this news, and it sounds like you had a wonderful budgie. It sounds like you took great care of her and made her time with you really happy!

Yes...indeed she was a great bird and even now I can't make myself believe that she's gone. I'm used to looking at 6 budgies in the cage. Now that she's gone, the cage has still 5 but the emptiness can be felt.

I'll post some pics of her with her chicks and the male parent in 2-3 days.

I had been away for a while and therefore couldn't be present here...Sadly, I lost the phone which contained my budgie's pics and thus I won't be able to post their photos.

Even though your phone is gone the memories and smiles she brought to you are there for ever to recall often. You are extremely lucky in having some of her babies to continue her line. It sounds like she did have some sort of trouble with a tumour or growth perhaps the only way you can be certain is to have a necropsy done by the vet. Fly high and free little one
