Default RIP Charlie Budgie :'(

My mother uncovered my budgie's cage this morning (I live away from home with my husband, and mum takes care of my birds), and Charlie was found dead on the bottom of his cage
As you can imagine, I was (still am) shocked. I have been a blubbering mess all day. Charlie was my first budgie... my in laws found him in their back yard about two years ago, he had flown away from his previous owners. We couldn't find his owners so I took him in. He looked barely a year old. I nicknamed him "chirpy Charlie" because he had so much to say. He was semi-tame, he didn't really like coming out of his cage, but he didn't bight hard.
I just don't understand. It is winter over here, and I kept him next to my cockatiel on the back patio. He was always covered up at night time with two layers, but could he have died from the cold possibly? It was a cold night, but I really didn't think that the cold could kill him?
I am pretty sure I fed him right, I looked after him. Is a heart attack possible? I really don't know. I feel like I am to blame, but everyone else is saying that it just happened. But really, what did I do wrong? Could I ever trust myself again to take care of a budgie?

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of Charlie. He was really cute, and I love his babbling in the video that you posted.

Budgies do have a high body temperature, so it's always important to move them indoors of the weather is cold. Unfortunately, it's impossible to say why Charlie passed, but I am hoping that the good memories that you had together will help you, in time, to lessen your sorrows. We learn how to become better caretakers with each bird, and although it's hard to say bye to them, they really make us happier and vice versa!

Lots of hugs to you!

Firstly let me tell you it is completely natural for you to feel this way on hearing the news of your Charlie's passing. The only real way to know what happened is to have a vet do an autopsy on him . I am sure you don't want to go through that, Charlie was a found budgie so you really don't know his background and what his history was. I am sure he thoroughly enjoyed his time with you and his flock mates. In time you will be able to think of Charlie without feeling so sad, but for now the tears are here to remind you of the love you had for him. It will get better I assure you take care.

I'm so sorry for your loss... Charlie was very lucky to have been found and rescued by you and I'm sure he appreciates all the love and care you have given him. I know the pain you are feeling is overwhelming, but as time passes, the hole left in your heart by Charlie's departure will be filled by the memories of the good times you had with your precious boy and he will forever live in your heart.

Rest in peace, Charlie. You were much loved and will be missed.

I'm so sorry your little Charlie has gone. He was as cute as a button in that video.
May he rest in peace
