My budgie called Bizhu, the same one who's into avatar, passed away yesterday. I had only had her for around 6 months
Ever since I first got her, I noticed her breathing was heavy and unnatural and she also had the scaly mite face. I assume this is because I got her from a small pet shop where up to 20 birds are all kept in the same small cage with one water and food dish - illness spreads quickly in conditions like that.
When I got her, I did my best to nurse her back to health - I fed her fruit and veggies along with her seeds, let her out when she wanted to be let out for exercise, and cleaned her cage every week.
Her face was clearing up well! After a couple of months it was completely gone. Because of this, I thought the breathing problems would get better too.
But about 4 days ago I noticed she was a lot more quiet than usual. She normally loves chirping along to the radio in the morning but she never made a sound. I suspected something might be wrong so I searched online for a vet to bring her to if things got worse.
On Saturday evening, things went downhill fast. I noticed she was vomiting up a clear green liquid. I tried to phone the vet I found but they wouldn't answer - they didn't on Sunday either. I hoped she would be able to pull through until Monday but unfortunately she passed away Sunday evening.
My budgie Bizhu was very shy but she had opened up a lot of trust before she died. She was cautious but once she knew a new toy or new food was safe, she would be very happy with it. She always reminded me more of a cockatiel than a budgie. She'll be missed
