My budgie named Dolly passed away yesterday, and before she did, she was pretty sick. I kept the cage covered so as not to disturb her, but I'd peek in to check on her once in a while. When I did, I'd look at the other one, Budgie, and he'd look from me to her and have this expression on his face that broke my heart, like 'is she gonna be ok?'
they weren't extrememly close, in fact, they reminded me of an old married couple, always bickering...
but now that Dolly's gone, and he's alone, Im just wondering if he's going to be depressed or something. I've had him a long time, and originally had another budgie, named Flit, who also died. I was a little kid then and didnt realize Budgie might be grieving. Also, I waited a couple years after Flit died to get Dolly.
I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing for him =(
I'm so sorry to hear about Dolly. It's a sad thing because their cage mates will indeed mourn. When our Snowball died the other two budgies kept calling for her and flying around. All they knew was that she was gone. It took them a couple of weeks to finally stop calling for her. They actually kept looking out the window as if she was out there.
It would be nice to get Budgie a friend, especially if he's been used to having company.
It's hard to lose a special friend.
Rest in Peace Dolly.
I am sorry for your loss. You lost a special pet. But for the remaining bird, it is worse. He lost his life partner.
When my Schnappi died, Snoopy was so sad I was afraid she would die too. I got another bird from the humane society right away. But with quarantine it still took 4 weeks before they could meet. It was the right thing. They are very happy together. Budgies are not meant to live alone
I'm so sorry for your loss
i lost my Kiko earlier this year and my female kept calling out to him and was actually nice for about aweek, i wondered if she was sick because she was coming to me and everything but after her week was done she went back to being her usual mean self
Like everyone else above me said, budgies do mourn and call for the other for a while but they will be okay, some take longer with mourning than others, it just depends on your budgie
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. My condolences.
Cutie Pie, Olive, Budgie, Baby Boy, Star, Pepper, Ariel, Oscar, Charlie, Little One, Chiclet.
Cutie Pie, Olive, Ariel, Little One and Chiclet are children of Budgie and Oscar.
Budgie and Star left us in 2009. Pepper and Oscar left us this year, 2010. 2018 and all are gone. Ariel and Cutie Pie died this Feb and March. Both over 11 years old.
A good day is a day all your birds are happy and healthy.
I'm so sorry for your loss of Dolly! If it were me I would get your remaining Budgie a new friend. I agree with Sigrid they aren't meant to live alone. While they may love and bond with their person we can never replace another of their own kind no more than they could ever replace another of our own kind for us.
If you do decide on another bird please quarantine.
im so sorry for your loss.... i felt real sad when your other budgie looked at you and said like "is she gonna be okay??" huhu... i know dolly is thankful to have you and you did your best.... dolly will always be beside you being your little angel.. just like what you did for her, the care and love... Rest well dolly...
i love them so much!..
