jupiter died.... :(
How can a budgie go from completely fine one night, to dying in my hand the following morning? When i uncovered them he fell to the bottom of his cage. I reached in to do their food and he didnt move so i picked him up. He was alert and had yellow stuff below his beak. So thinking nothing of it, i took him to sink and wet my finger and slightly washed it off and was rubbing his head and he seemed fine still other than he has never just laid there on his back and chilled. I was getting ready to take a pic thinking wow i am the new bird whisperer and he started to look funny. So i took him immediately to his cage and he laid to his side. I picked him back up and he took his last breaths and closed his eyes. Was a horrible morning. Kids are devastated and to top it off my elderly cat died this morning, my husband found her. We have to tell the kids yet tonight. I asked God last night if he would take kitty in her sleep, he did. He also took jupiter. I dont know how old he was i have had him a year. I rescued him from someone else who didnt want their budgies anymore. Glad i got this good year in. Jupiter ate alllll the time. Was a running joke. "Oh look who got to it first." Lol we would chuckle. Jupiter loved food. He serious ate all day long. I dont know if something i gave them yday he ate too much of it or what but if i thought it was my fault id be devastated. I gave them peas, green beans, carrots, and corn w their scrambled eggs. I googled online about corn and it seemed ok to give. Needless to say just in case i wont give them corn again. Im just sick to my stomach. People made fun of my son at school asking why he was crying. He told them about his bird and they laughed at him and said its only a bird. They are not only birds, they are part of the family and he will be sooooo missed. :(

You did nothing that caused Jupiter to pass on, so please stop blaming yourself. Corn is perfectly safe for budgies so that wasn't the problem at all.

Unfortunately, just like with people, budgies are sometimes victim of a heart-attack, stroke or internal illness that we are unaware of.
I'm sorry you lost him suddenly, but be happy that he didn't have a long lingering illness that caused him undue suffering.
He was a fortunate little fellow to have had a year to be loved by you and your family.

Jupiter is now flying high at the Rainbow Bridge.

I'm sorry you suffered the loss of both your elderly cat and Jupiter all in one day -- I know that is a lot to deal with.
If you need to talk, please feel free to send me a Private Message. You and your family are in my heart and prayers.

It is because of Love we Grieve
Because of Love we are also comforted
in our Sorrow

In Memories, may you find Healing
In Time, may you find Peace
In the Power of Love, may you find Comfort.

Sorry to hear that Julie. Do not hear anything in your post for you to think you may have done something wrong food wise. I have fed my birds plenty of corn with no ill affects. Sometimes just like us, it is their time. You could call a local vet and inquire on the cost of necropsy if you really feel the need. I am glad he was able to spend the time with you and your family. Sound's like you enjoyed him, and he enjoyed all of you, that is what it is all about...

Oh Julie,

I am so sorry for your losses. Today has been a terrible day for you. I have you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. I hope your son feels better, it didn't help with the lack of compassion from his classmates. That's a terrible thing. I understand you wanting to keep the kitty's news to yourselves right now. Jupiter and your kitty were deeply loved and cared about. It was not your fault in any way. I'm sure he was glad to have you comfort him as he passed to the rainbow bridge.

I know it hurts and a life is a life, no matter how small. No life should be worth more or less than the next. I admire your and your family's compassion with this, especially your son at a young age. I hope you all feel better and start to have much better days coming up.

*virtual hug*

Thank u for ur kind words. Means a lot. I spoke with a lady at the bird store and she said sounded like a respiratory thing, since he had the stuff under his chin. Im gonna take extra precautions to make sure it was nothing we did wrong. Ugggh im gonna miss that lil guy. His personality was so addictive.

Julie, I am devastated for you. That is horrible. I am so sorry for your losses. Both Jupiter and your cat are in a better place now, free of illness and pain. Please do not blame yourself, as you did nothing wrong. As Deb said, sometimes these things just happen. It's no one's fault. Please accept our deepest sympathies and sincerest condolences.

Fly high and free Jupiter, and sing a beautiful song.

Run free and wild little kitty and purr your troubles away.

R.I.P. little ones, you're free.

Again, I'm so sorry for your losses, today is not a good day for you.

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty and the very unexpected loss of your Jupiter as well...:( You have my deepest sympathies.
Time will heal the deep pain you are feeling and soon the hole left in your heart by their departure will be filled with the memories of the good times you had with Jupiter and your kitty.

This is a hard lesson in life for your son and in the end going through this loss and overcome it will make him a stronger, better person who is respectful, understanding and compassionate about all living beings. I was also bullied and ridiculed as a child because of my love for animals, specifically pet birds and my crying over them when they passed away. I have learnt to ignore my classmates and started to keep things more to myself, deep down I knew they were ignorant as they didn't know the real joy and privilege of having a truly cherished pet and they were the ones missing out.
I would only confide to those who truly deserved my friendship.

I hope you and your son will feel better soon.

Rest in peace, Jupiter and kitty.
