Default She is dead

My female budgie died while breeding ( i think that problem is called egg binding ) . Not sure what happened i didnot notice any change in her apetite or her drops (before blaming me i didnt call veterinar specialist i should say this is not well developed country and there is big lack of doctors what to say for vets ... i practicly have not use any ) , one night she screamed , i saw her at the bottom of the cage trying to laid in the cage . I put her in nest but in the early morning she screamed again and i jumped out of the bed and found her dead :| the male bird was outside the cage flying around and looking her . I burried her . Cant describe the feeling and bad day and taste
Now my last bird doesnot seem so bad , he is singing , eating , looking good but i am sure he is lonely . Today he flight from his* room to the kitchen where we are having some repairing , that was sing of madness he almoast escaped through the opened window . He have never done this i am sure he was trying to find her , despite having a mirror and me around himself i think he need new friend . Should i buy him male or female , should i do this considering he is 4 years and a half and birds in shop are young ? Or Should i give him freedom , i really love that budgie he is the smartest i have ever seen , he always wanted freedom so ... may be i have resource to free him at place with a really nice climate ... i know he is not ready for this i dont know what to do

RIP

sorry about your bird

but do NOT let your other one go free- captive birds would not live out in the wild, they'd be lucky to survive 24 hours, They do not know how to get their own food or water - it is handed to them daily, they don't have to go searching for it.

not to mention predators that would kill them in a heart beat.

if you do get another bird, you'd have to quarantine it for 30 days, separate cage, separate room, no contact at all between the birds for 30 days

and it would be best to get another male - so no mating occurs and this won't happen again, 2 males will get along

I am so sorry to hear about your little bird. I would just give your remaining bird lots of love and attention. If he reamains sad then you can get him a friend but get another male and you won't have to worry about eggs again.

So sorry

It is tricky but try to look at the posts on here that deal with that before you go to the store. The young girl budgies tend to have white ceres or blue with white nostrils. Boys tend to be all one uniform blue/ purple color or uniform(even) pinky purple coloring if it is a pied. Many young birds are hard to determine but there are always some standouts. If you go in there and buy a bird based on the cere color vs looking at their body color you can almost always find a boy. That is what I did with my last one. Sometimes too they will have some that around 6 months and easier to detemine. So look for blue/ purple even colored ceres the darker the better and it will most likely end up being a boy. Good luck.

Sorry to hear of your loss. but defently don't let your other one free. And as atvchick mentioned even if you get a new one you will need to quaratine it for 30 days at least to make sure it has no illness that can be passed on to the one you already have.
Here is a site that has some helpful info with determining the gender
