Default Could Trill have killed him?

I wrote about my little bird Blue who died suddenly on the 20 November. I was really shocked because he was so healthy right up untill the day he died. I was asked if there was anything different i had given him .Which i thought there was not.Untill i saw an article on a forum about Trill.Well here in the UK it was a very well known brand which has been going for very many years. But not long ago they changed it. And this was the only thing you could get. It didnt seem the same as the old and trusted one at all. Different people on this other forum were saying it was no good and birds had died eating it. Well this new Trill was the only thing different i gave to my little bird. We cant get pellets in England. I am wondering if it was that that killed him.He was only two and a half. I am going to get two more budges later in the year. And i dont want to risk feeding them the same. What seed does anyone here suggest, and do you think it could be that that killed him?

I read last year that Trill had changed it's ingredients and members of another forum I used to be on were saying that their budgies would not eat it, a few of the members wrote to the manufacturers complaining but I left the forum before I heard the response, I haven't heard of any budgies dying from the new trill though.

I'm afraid I usually buy normal petshop seed because my birds already have a good diet with their fruit and veg, but for the last few days I've been trying seed manufactured by a company called Versele-Laga in Belgium, it's premium prestige for budgies, it has fruits and oyster shell etc in it, so far I'm impressed and my flock seem to like it, I particularly like it because their's no dust from the seed, hope this helps

I have never read about the trill situation - I've only ever used it once myself. What did they do differently with it to cause so many fatality's ?
I normally get my seeds fresh from my local pet shop down the road and never had a problem They are a small family run business and there products are always good.

Sorry, I get my seed locally as well. It's a special Budgie with vitamins mix that's made for the budgie diet. They all love the seed I get them.

I decided that I wasn't going to give them any food that had preservatives in it. Not good to preserve your bird.

I don't do much about trill. But my breeder said when you are introducing new seed to our budgies you have to take it slowly mix the old seed with the new seed.. I was told to mix the seed in small amounts so they get use to the new taste of the seed..I buy my seed from a seed produce place I mix my seed and I buy the best seed for my budgie.. I am so sorry Marya...

I have been worried about our Timmy. Allan, Dave, and I have had he same problem with the new Trill. He hates it and I think that it is making him have runny droppings so we are going to buy him something else. It'll see if I can get some Haiths for him.
He has been unusually quiet. He chirps like mad usually at the weathermen and women on BBC breakfast but he has not been doing this since I tried him on the new Trill. I'm looking forward to him being his usual loud self again! I can't stand the silence!

This is just one of the remarks about it.

This is a copy of a response from the manufacturers of Trill dated October 23rd 2014: -

Thank you for your latest email.

We are so sorry to hear that someone has lost their budgie, we are always very saddened to hear news like this.
In order to continue production and ensure the availability of Trill Bird Seed we had to change where we manufacture our seed.
When we moved the production of our Trill Bird seed it was our intention to produce a recipe that was as much aligned as possible to the recipe that we were previously making
However, as you are aware in the initial months of production we were unable to reliably source the quantity of seeds we needed, this was due to severe drought conditions.
In order to continue to supply Trill we introduced a new ratio of seed which was locally available and more importantly provided a complete and balanced meal for budgies. We have since secured the raw materials we need to provide a recipe that is more aligned to the previous recipe and are awaiting it’s arrival in the UK.
We are aware from yourself and other budgie owners that budgies are not enjoying the seed and appreciate all the concerns that have been shared with us.

Kind regards.

Interesting articles here. I started my budgies on seed from the shop were they were adopted from, and then I moved onto Trill. Reason being my parents have fed all their budgies Trill for many many years. I was aware the packaging had changed but wasn't sure about the contents. Olaf & Belle seem quite content with it and it doesn't affect their chirping!! But I may be move back onto the local pet shop seed as the concensus here seems to be it's better nutritional value?

I did a post on a few forums about the new trill and its inability to sprout anything other than mould.

I am aware now of a few budgies dying from the new mix but havn't really been keeping up with it for a month or so to know whats happening with it.

I feed mine Beaphar Xtra Vital and Bucktons budgie tonic. All new seed mixes get sprout tested here to see how fresh the seed is.
