Merlin The Bird

I am very sad to report that Merlin passed away today, at the ripe age of 10 years old. His human, Emma, was not a member of Talk Budgies, but his age and good looks are a testimony to how well he was loved and cared for.
I discovered him on facebook, fell in love, and followed him for years, eventually making this film; it's one of my favorites of all that I have done. (Please let it load fully before playing - press the play button, then pause it immediately, until it is loaded all the way)

Rest in peace, wonderful little man - you brought great joy to many

Rest in Peace, sweet handsome Merlin. Ollie, your film is a great tribute to a very special character. Heaven is a little bit brighter today now that Merlin is there. May Emma keep Merlin in her heart forever. Thank you for sharing him with us.

Thank you, Susan - you have always been so faithful to watch and comment on my films - I really appreciate you!
Merlin is in my heart forever, too - I feel as if I got to know him personally, as I do with so many budgies here at Talk Budgies

I know exactly how you feel. Budgies are so special. I love to see their photos, hear their stories. And I am sad when they are no longer with us. Unfortunately, I have no talent to pay tribute to them. That is why I enjoy your films so much. You do it perfectly.

I didn't know Merlin, but from this wonderful tribute video I can see how special he was.
He clearly had a family who loved him very much and took excellent care of him.
I send my deepest condolences to them.

Rest in peace, handsome Merlin. You were much loved and will be missed.

So sorry for Merlin's passing. He looks very much like Artoo but seems to have much more charisma than my boy. I'm sure his 10yrs with Emma was with filled with love and tender loving care, and your video summarized it beautifully.

Thank you, Heidi!
Yes - the music is "The Sorcerer's Apprentice", used in Fantasia.

I'm so sorry to hear Emma's little fellow passed on.
He lived so fully and I doubt he could have been happier! Your video shows how cherished and how much he meant to his family!
He is flying high above the rainbow bridge now, peacefully and forever.
Rest well, little blue boy :rip:

Thank you so much, Lyn - This means alot to me, coming from you! :)

Yes, Merlin was a much beloved little bird, and really, he was there for Emma ever since she was 11 - she is now 21, and simply can't imagine her life without him. My heart goes out to her - we know what it's like to lose such an important little friend...

SPBudgie 04-29-2015 10:15 PM

If anyone is interested, here's what Emma wrote today about her life with Merlin - I found it so moving I cried. I think many people will find much to identify with in here...

Merlin

So often have I counted the days, and months, and years as if they would some how prevent that terrible day to come. You prepare and yet you never are prepared. The heart and soul cry and remember all of the efforts to soften the pain and make it go away. So we got to be older and thought it would better not to get a bigger companion that might out live us and be an orphan. We decided budgies might be better as they had shorter life spans. Well, guess what? It still hurts just as much even as we try to rationalize the loss we experience. The pictures in the mind file by as I remember each one and their special place they still hold in the mind. Then life calls until the next time comes to stop and take stock of what really matters in a life time of loving :budge:memories. God Bless you Merlin. Jo Ann :budge:

I too followed Merlin on Facebook and was really saddened to see he had passed. I read what Emma wrote too and it really tugs at the heartstrings. Their bond was so special.

What a little character

Over the past 10 years, little Merlin and Emma have seen so many changes in the world, and looking at the film of this remarkable little bird, he seems to have shared them.

You will never forget such a wonderful friend, and he had a good life, shared with people who obviously loved him.

Sorry for your loss, he will ever be in your memories.
