Default Goodbye, Festus

This morning I was horrified to find one of our parakeets, and dare I say it, our favorite bird, Festus, dead in his cage. I'll spare you the details of his death, as its honestly too painful to describe, and I doubt you'd even want to know.

Festus is the little grey parakeet on the left. When we got Festus, we already had too many birds.. but there was something special about him. He hopped up on my finger in Petland, and just started chirping away at me, tilting his head, as if he was talking directly to me. I could not leave him in the store. He came home with us. He was always such a good boy. He always stepped up, never bit us, ever. He would kiss your nose, and sit on your hand as long as you'd let him. The conure pictured was his best friend, Vern. Its painful to have to say, but Vern is the reason Festus is dead. I don't believe it was on purpose. I think Vern just didn't realize his own strength. In retrospect, I feel horribly irresponsible for placing a tiny parakeet into a cage with a big conure. You have to understand, they were best friends. Festus slept under Vern's wing. They fed and groomed each other. They played together, ... it was obvious at the time Vern would never hurt Festus. We were wrong. I'm so sorry Festus. I hope you didn't suffer. I wish I'da known what would happen, I would have saved you. You were my boy. I'm gonna miss you, festusbug.

Unhappy My condolences

I am so sorry for your loss.
Too bad that it was his best friend that caused his death Maybe somebody else can learn from this. At least then the death wouldn't be in vain....

I am so sorry to hear about Festus. I know you're feeling a terrible loss. It's too bad that his friend was the cause.
Please don't blame Vern.
Rest in peace now little Festus. And fly with the angels.

I'm sorry to hear about Festus. He was a beautiful bird, and you obviously loved and cared for him. His specific situation is especially tragic.
Fly free, Festus.

Rest in peace Festus He looked adorable, I am sorry. Sadly we can't mix species of fids together like that, no matter how well they might get along Hopefully your story can help someone else avoid making that mistake.

I am so sorry that this happened to you. Even among budgies, suddenly best buds can suddenly become enemies. All we can do is be aware of the dangers and do our best to prevent them. My condolences.
