Honeydew...

I can't believe I'm writing this. Dewey was an active, playful bird today. He started playing with his toys for the first time. He perched on my shoulder for the first time.

Not too long ago I went to check on Dewey and found him at the bottom of his cage. I picked him up and he would just lay in his belly. He tried to fly, but he couldn't use his legs much and fell. I picked him up again, and he began to seize. His back arched, his head tilted back, and his wings spread out. He would release, then start again. We called our local vet who said it sounded like seizures. Eventually he stopped seizing, and was still.

We only had the little boy for 9 days, and even though this is so heart breaking and I'm sobbing, I know he had a good time with us. He loved to sing along to budgie videos, he loved his mirror, and he only just started to love being held and interacted with.

This has been a rough experience, and I only wish we were more experienced and knew what to do. He was our first bird, and I think we did all we could for him.

Goodbye Honeydew, I still can't believe this happened, and I just wish I could hear you sing in my ear one more time...

OH no, I am truly heartbroken for you both. I know how much you loved and cared for your sweet Dewey. When we choose to take home one of these special little birds they quickly attach themselves to our hearts. I know Honey Dew had the best time and loved you as equally as you did he. He is now with our Angel flock flying high and playing . He is free from pain, Memories will be shared and smiles will return when you think of him, the tears are from love please take care and I send you my sincere condolences.:pray:

Thank you, I'm thankful we were both there for him during this scary time. If I could do this over, I would always chose for him to possibly find comfort in my hands than to be alone and us find him like that. This hurts so much but we loved that little bird.

Celyia 07-30-2015 06:18 AM

Oh, wow. That just hurts my heart. I was so happy when you rescued Dewey from his loneliness and even happier when you and Bryan turned out to be fantastic parronts.

All I can say is that Dewey was very lucky to find you two. He likely had some health issues (unfortunately, pet shop birds often do), but you guys gave him a real home and human flock that loved him dearly.

I am so sorry for your loss.

Oh Noelle I am so very sorry for the loss of Honeydew... Such a short life... This must be so heart breaking you both... But the good thing is that this little budgie had a wonderful mum and dad that loved him so very much..
Honeydew will be in your hearts forever he knew you loved him.. You will see him again one day..

Maybe when the time is right you might like to try again to love another little budgie there are a lot of budgies out there who need a loving home...

Sweet Honeydew sing a beautiful song and fly high up in the Sky...

Oh My darling my Honeydew
I've hungered for your touch
A long, lonely time

And time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
Are you still mine?

I need your love
I need your love
God speed your love to me

Lonely rivers flow to the sea, to the sea
To the open arms of the sea
Lonely rivers sigh, "Wait for me, wait for me
I'll be coming home, wait for me"

Whoa, my love
My darling
I've hungered, hungered for your touch
A long, lonely time

And time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
Are you still mine?

I need your love
I need your love
God speed your love to me

I'm so very sorry for your loss of darling little HoneyDew.

Dewey was a fortunate little boy to have had you to love and care for him, even if only for a short time. He was able to experience the joy and love of having a truly caring family and knowing he was treasured beyond compare.

Fly high to the Rainbow Bridge sweet boy; rest peacefully darling HoneyDew
It is because of Love we Grieve
and
Because of Love we are also comforted
in our Sorrow

In Memories, may you find Healing
In Time, may you find Peace
In the Power of Love, may you find Comfort.

It doesn't take long for these sweet little bird's to wiggle their way right into our heart's.
Very sorry that his time with you was so short, unfortunately just as with all other living thing's including us, there is no promise of tomorrow...

Rest in Peace, sweet handsome Honeydew. Keep his cute face and happy song close to your heart, and he will be with you forever. He left us much too soon. We were just getting to know and love him. Noelle, you filled his short life with so much love. I am so sorry for your loss.

despoinaki 07-30-2015 09:58 AM

I am so so sorry for your loss! Surely Dewey was happy in this short amount of time he was in your home..
Fly high and free, Dewey...

I'm so sorry to hear this...:( It's truly heartbreaking when they leave us too soon and at such a young age, you have my deepest sympathies.
Even though your Honeydew was with your for a very short amount of time, he knew how much he was loved and cared for.

Rest in peace, little Honeydew. You were much loved and will be missed.

Thank you all for your amazing words and support. We miss Honeydew so much. We had such an amazing experience taming and bonding with him, we'd love to try again with another little bird soon. Dewey's journey may be over, but we'll be back for the next one. We've truly appreciated all the help and interested you all had in our boy

Aww I am so sorry :(. I leave the forums a few days and see this has happened... Even though I'd only seen pictures and heard his stories, i really was growing fond of Honeydew :/. At least he got to live his last days in a loving home <3

Your darling Dewey is much loved and you did all you could. Seizures are something that indicates a serious underlying health problem which, as Dewey was so young, he would not have been able to be cured of. You will always remember him and the love you feel will stay with you:budgie:

I'm so sorry to hear Dewey left this world. It's very difficult when this happens. Those little birds bring us so much joy, whether they are with us for a short time or a long time. Sending lost of positive thoughts your way :budgie:

those 9 days must have been blessed and sacred
i can feel ur pain. my first bird piers died similar way at the vets
im sorry for ur loss

Therm 08-06-2015 02:29 PM

That's such an awful experience but imagine the comfort that he was able to gather from you. His time with you was short but he clearly felt safe with you. In all the horribleness of the situation, I hope you can take away the comfort that you were able to give him.

fletchling 08-06-2015 11:33 PM

Thank you all again for your kind words. I miss that little budgie boy everyday, and everyday I wonder what our bond would have been like now or how far we would have gotten in his training. Piper is only just starting to come around to us, but of course its not the same. I miss Dewey. I love our newest birds but I find myself holding back on getting caught up with them too soon just in case :crying2:

I know in my heart you're right. It's still so hard though knowing we couldn't help him. But as Therm said, we are just so happy he got the chance to be a happy singing budgie who liked getting kisses and attention. :budgie:

Oh no, I'm so sorry. That is very sad, as you were just getting to know Honeydew and falling in love with him :(. He knew how much he was loved.
