Sorry about the timing of my posts, Joey (10 yrs) passed away last Thursday afternoon and Sami (5 yrs) unexpectedly passed away Sunday night. I think the mistake I made was keeping Joey in the same room as Sami for the last week. Even tho they were in separate cages, I maybe should have kept her somewhere else. Sami sat in the corner of his cage, closest to Joey so he could watch her & talk to her. When she stopped eating, I think that is what he thought he should do. I didn't realize he wasn't eating enough until I cleaned his cage Saturday after work. Every time I went into their room (my dining room) Sami was on the same perch but I really didn't think anything of it. (I also have a love bird that we picked up this past August.) I held his dish for him and he ate for a good 3 mins. I brought him into my home office, where I was working, he would sit lower & finally started to eat on his own. We did the same routine on Sunday, only he fell off his dish and was gone an hour later. I thank all of you for your kind words and support. My daughter is away at University and won't learn of this till I pick her up on Oct. 9th. I am keeping the cages to fill again, maybe after Christmas.
You gave your little birds the best possible life they could have had, and now they fly together overhead, looking down at you. You will have some good memories of them, I'm sure, and though they are gone on earth, they will never disappear from your heart.
Fly high, Sami and Joey. Rest among the stars.
and Princess Mallorn!
Thank you to Deb for her wonderful Faery magic
Again, thank you all for your kinds words & support. I went out on Wednesday and had a look at a few budgies and hoping that one is still available when I bring my daughter home for reading week on the 10th. I am ready! I keep talking to my daughter's lovebird, Skye, as if she was my Sami as her colouring is similar, silly me. She just stares at me when I do LOL. This new budgie that I have my heart set on is a male, his face & head are bright yellow and the rest of the feathers are shades of grey. I'm thinking either Echo or Merlyn. Will change my picture when I bring him home. (Fingers crossed)
