Thank you for your kind thoughts. Finnegan is being very vocal and looking around for Sam, we both miss him terribly.
Sam died from a crop impaction. He was chewing on the back of a fabric snugglie/tent and ingesting the fiber bits. I didn't realize it until it was too late - this is the third snugglie I've had for the birds with no chewing on the previous ones. I tossed out the snugglie after I noticed it had been chewed and that was weeks ago, but when I brought him into the vet, the yellow fabric bits from the snugglie were visible inside his crop under the skin.
My little guy hid his illness really well, he was even flying around just yesterday morning. I noticed his droppings were very liquid and he was puffy so I brought him into the vet's. He went downhill while there. I had him wrapped up in a towel from home and cuddled him under my chin. He let me scruffle his little head feathers and then I left him with the vet to care for him.
The vet planned to operate on Sam today, but Sam passed away while at the vet's yesterday. I know they did all they could for him, but I wish I would have noticed something sooner, maybe then he would have been well enough to be able to have surgery. Poor little boy, I miss him but am glad he is no longer in pain.
I just went to my TB profile because it has been some time since I have been here and just noticed from the comments visitors left on my profile that my budgie Ernie passed away on 9/22/2013. And I read the "in memory" I posted about Ernie on 9/22. How strange that my Sam died exactly two years later. 9/22 is now a very sad day to me
