Default RIP Tiggy

Just about half an hour ago, my cat killed Tiggy, my lovely lil' budgie. I don't know how it happened, as Tiggy always used to stay up in the bird room atop her cage. Somehow she ended up downstairs in the cat room and the cat did what cats do. I scooped her up off the floor and held her in my hands, but she was too badly injured.

I'm still shocked, and feel guilty, because if things worked out just a bit differently she'd still be here right now.

RIP to my favorite little flying green vegetable. <3

I am very sorry for your loss poor little Tiggy. This is why I won't have a cat cause it is there nature to hunt you can never trust a cat around birds... Guess this is a learning thing for you but I know it is not your fault.. Try not to be so hard on yourself...You can't watch the cat 24 hours of the day..But I can't understand why he is on top of the cage all of the time..But in the future if you get another budgie please keep the cat out of the bird room all of the time.

Fly high in the sky little Tiggy... You were very much loved.....

Thanks for the kind words, it helps at a time like this.

The cats had been kept in one room on the lower level of the house with the door closed and latched (as well as outside), and the birds in a different room upstairs. Sometimes the birds would fly loops around the upper level of the house but they would always return to their cages at the end of their flight circuit, and we'd make sure the cats were either in the cat room or outside while this happened.

Arrived home tonight from an errand and let the cat in the front door, he went right into the cat room. Poor little Tiggy must have flown in there while I was out and wasn't able to get back up the stairs.

I am very sorry to hear of this very tragic accident that led to your Tiggy's passing... You have my deepest sympathies.

I can imagine what you must be feeling and please try to not be too hard on yourself. Even though you trusted your Tiggy to stay on the top level of your house and going downstairs was not something your budgie girl would do, at the end of the day, our pets can have moments where they act erratically and will do something unexpected, and we must take this factor into account.
This is exactly why they shouldn't have free reign of the house when there is no person there to closely supervise, and especially so when there are cats or other larger pets in the household.
Again I am deeply sorry for your loss and that you had to learn this lesson the hard way.
I truly hope you are able to free yourself of the guilt and with time manage to heal from your loss.

Rest in peace beautiful Tiggy. You were much loved and will be missed.
