In a previous thread of mine I said that Sunny was to be put down last Monday. Well, we were reluctant and only when he lost the use of his left leg did we know we had to put an end to his suffering. He was dropped off at the vets sometime between 9:00 and 15:00, whilst I was at school. He would've been five on March 14.
In all honesty, I'm not very upset. Of course I'm sad that my little fella's gone, but I'm not exactly crying about it for a few reasons:
1. As far as bloke-bird relationships go, mine and Sunny's wasn't the best. I loved him a lot, but he didn't return the feelings. This only got worse over time.
2. Being lutino, he probably would've only lived to be six at best (according to the vet), so it's been a good run for him age-wise.
3. He had been very ill for a few weeks and whatever happens after death, be it reincarnation, eternal peace or heaven, will be better than what he was going through.
4. Finally, I believe that the Sunny I knew and loved died a while ago; he hadn't been the same, being fearful of everyone for months, and lethargic towards the end; not 'Sunny-ish' at all.
I know I sound heartless, but I'm just a natural pragmatist. He's in a much better situation now and free of the world's pains. I'll see you on the other side, Sunshine.
You have my deepest sympathies over your Sunny's passing.
When we run out of options to ensure our pet's quality of life, sadly we have to come to terms with the fact that in order to not prolong the suffering, we need to reach the decision to let them go with the vet's help.
Part of being a good pet owner is always loving our pets, even in the most challenging moments, whether they are related to an illness or not.
Your Sunny is now made whole again and is free of any pain.
Rest in peace, Sunny.

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely
Sunshine, almost always, makes me high
If I had a day that I could give you
Id give to you a day just like today
If I had a song that I could sing for you
Id sing a song to make you feel this way
Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely
Sunshine, almost always, makes me high
If I had a tale that I could tell you
Id tell a tale sure to make you smile
If I had a wish that I could wish for you
Id make a wish for sunshine all the while
Thank you for letting us know. I'm sorry for your loss of Sunny, you have my deepest sympathies. Im glad he is no longer suffering and that you and your family followed through with getting him professional help during his illness and ultimately to complete his journey.
