Unhappy RIP Artemis

Hi,
I have had two wonderful budgies, Artemis and Zeus, for two and a half years now. This morning I woke up to find Artemis dead and Zeus quiet in the corner. This really was a shock, as she was in perfect health and was due to lay eggs any day now. I'm really worried about Zeus though, because he's been quiet and was gently nudging Artemis when we found her. I spend most of my day at school and I'm afraid Zeus will become lonely. I've already decided to get him a friend (I'll quarantine the bird for 30 days as recommended in another thread), but I'm unsure what age bird to get. Zeus is about two and a half years old. Thanks in advance!

RIP Artemis 2013-2016

I am very sorry to hear about the loss of Artemis . It's such a devastating and shocking feeling to find them.

Since you say you have made up your mind already to get another budgie, have you ever considered getting Zeus a male friend instead of a female? Males often times make great buddies for each other, and even share the same bonding behaviors as a male and female would, but without breeding. Remember, you don'thave to breed. Take care.

Thanks so much, RavensGryf. Yes, I agree, since I am moving country in 6 months, I think I will get Zeus a male buddy. He's not aggressive at all, and I think it would do him good to have a friend to chat with.

I think that is an awesome idea! When selecting a new bird, it's ideal when you can go see them in person and interact with them and watch them interact with each other to see each baby's personality. You can see from a pretty young age which ones might be more inclined to being friendly with others, and which ones might be more aggressive. You've checked that you can take Zeus out of your country to the country you're moving to?

I am so sorry for your loss, I agree with the advice offered if you are planning on getting another budgie for friendship a male would be much better at this time. Good luck in the mean time give Zeus lots of attention and interaction.

Aww - so sorry you had to find Artemis suddenly gone like that. My heart goes out to you and Zeus, and I think it's a very good idea to get the little guy another friend. In the meantime, perhaps you two can bond closer, and comfort each other.
Rest in peace, dear Artemis

I'm very sorry for your loss of little Artemis.

I agree with RavensGryf that getting a young male as a friend for Zeus will be the best option.

Are you going to be able to relocate the two budgies with you when you relocate?
Have you looked into the rules and regulations for what will be required to bring the birds into the new country when the time comes?

I'm so sorry to hear this... You have my deepest sympathies over your Artemis' passing.
I'm sending my best wishes to you and Zeus during this very difficult time.

Rest in peace, little Artemis.

Very sorry for your loss of Artemis. Its always sad to find your bird thought to be in good health taken suddenly by unknown causes, with the other bird left lonely not knowing were his mate has gone.

May Artemis now rest in peace and best wishes for Zeus to carry on
