My son (9 1/2) and I had the cutest little Budgie you could hope for.
She was lively, curious, so funny. She would play with my extremely ticklish son by crawling in his shirt and running all over him with her little feet while he howled in laughter. Then she would pop out of the arm hole and sit on his shoulder. He loved her so much and I know she loved him, too. I have never seen a female be so vocal and affectionate. She was my bird for the first few days but it quickly became apparent that she belonged to my son instead. Mommy was the caretaker but she was his bird and he was her boy. He hand tamed her on his own, with very little help from me.
I can't bear to talk about her sudden death on Thursday. It's too recent and too much. I will just say that her death drove me back to this forum in a flood of tears, because outside of my poor heartbroken little boy, you guys are the only folks who understand this pain. She's got her own little "coffin" and a marker over the grave in the back yard, so that when my son is ready he can visit her.
Thank you for reading. Please keep my son in your thoughts! She was his first bird and he just fell apart when I broke the news to him.
Very sorry to hear your loss, friend. It is difficult to mourn the loss of any pet's passing, especially one we've formed an attachment and fondness for during the times shared in our lives. I'm sure Sky most have been a very precious birdie and we'd very much like to see some photos for remembrance if possible.
Rest in peace and fly high little one

Oh I'm so sorry to hear of this . It is so hard when our little loved ones pass. Sky sounded like a very special individual. As hard as it is, you know you must stay strong for your young son. Healing, comforting thoughts coming your way for both of you.
I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm glad you have so many happy memories of Sky. In time this will help both you and your son be able to talk about - and remember - the close bond you had with Sky. Sending you positive energy.
I'm so very sorry for your son's and your loss of your sweet little girl.
I'll lend you,
for a little while, a bird of mine, He said.
For you to love while she lives,
and mourn when she is dead.
It may be six or seven years, or maybe twenty-three,
But will you, till I call her back, take care of her for me?
She'll bring her charms to gladden you, and shall her stay be brief,
You'll have her lovely memories as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise she will stay, as all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there I want this bird to learn.
I've looked the whole world over in my search for teachers true,
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes, I have selected you.
Now will you give her all your love - not think this labor vain,
Nor hate me when I come to call, to take her back again.
I fancied that I heard them say, 'Dear Lord, thy will be done.'
For all the joy this bird shall bring, the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shower her with tenderness and love her while we may,
And for the happiness we've known, forever grateful stay.
And should the angels call for her much sooner than we planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand.
