Default Cthulhu

After being under the weather for some time and after multiple vet visits, we had to have our darling boy Cthulhu put down last Thursday. He just never seemed to be able to put on weight since the start of his illness, and although he was treated, the vet said his little stomach had been damaged by Avian Gastric Yeast. I feel so sad for our sweet, happy boy but also glad that his pain is now over and that he had such a fun time during the far too short time he was with us.

I am so upset it feels hard to breathe. My pretty girl Davros is...okay. She is calling and looking about for Cthulhu but also playing, preening, chuntering away to herself and most importantly - eating. The vet said to give her sodium benzoate for a month to try to prevent her from becoming ill like Cthulhu so she is having that. Luckily I happen to be between jobs till December so I can spend lots of time with her and hopefully can bear to get a new bird and quarantine him before I start the new job so that neither has to be on their own much.

I love you my funny, pretty, dusty, feathery, stripy, playful, screechy, tuneful, silly, cutie, fluffy, gentle, boisterous, clever, cocky, acrobatic, flirty Cthulhu.

I’m so very sorry for the loss of your precious Cthulhu.

He knew he was loved and cared for, and hung on for you until he could no longer. You were proactive and did all you could do. I know it hurts. Time will heal little by little. Good to hear Davros is doing alright. Take good care.

I'm sorry for your loss of Cthulhu.
Cthulku was very fortunate to have you to love and care for him during his short time here on earth.
It is because of Love we Grieve
and
Because of Love we are also comforted
in our Sorrow

In Memories, may you find Healing
In Time, may you find Peace
In the Power of Love, may you find Comfort

Fly high and soar freely sweet Cthulhu; rest peacefully little man.

Thank you all for the very kind responses, I really appreciate it. I know that people here properly understand. He fought the illness bravely but he knew that it was time for him to go. I think he really did know how much he was loved and cared for. I hope he is somewhere having loads of fun with the other angel budgies, having long mutual head preening sessions and singing pretty tunes.

I am sorry for your loss, stay strong with Davros. Any particular source for the infection that comes to your mind? I've read that feeding too much sugar( fruits) creates an environment conducive for fungal growth. Once the sodium benzoate therapy is completed, start giving apple cider vinegar( with mother, preferably the Braggs brand) to Davros. The acidic pH suppresses the pathogenic fungus.

Thank you. No, they were never fans of fruit though I very occasionally offered them a bit of apple or grape but not recently. We talked about this at the vet each visit as of course I am desperate not to be doing anything that might harm my budgies and the consensus seemed to be that, especially as Davros remains plump and healthy, that it was perhaps just bad luck. They said that often birds survive for years on terrible diets! (Edit-I don't mean my birds did, I tried to give them a good diet with lots of veggies) I bought them a daylight bulb for vitamin D and am continuing to dose Davros with that for an hour or so each day. They got the apple cider vinegar two or three times a week as a matter of course.
