I was too sad before this to post a tribute to my sweet little bird.
Here is one of her special songs:
(to the tune of Lemon Tree)
Lemon Drop, very pretty
O, my Lemon Drop you're sweet
You're the best of all the budgies
My favorite parakeet
Chorus: Lemon Drop (x4)
Sweet Little Lemon Drop
A Poem by Goldenwing
We had two wonderful years together
to bond and play and talk.
You trained me well to be your companion,
to feed you millet treats and let you out of your cage
when you needed more excitement,
to sing you songs and keep you entertained.
I miss your chirrup of welcome when I come home,
your presence while I work,
you nudging my hand for scratches on the head,
warming yourself on the computer keyboard,
and flying to perch on my phone.
Even your naughty antics when you would munch on things you shouldn’t
or make little messes outside your cage.
The window sill is empty,
your hanging perch taken down,
your play gym put away;
I creep about in the morning to not wake you,
then remember that you are gone.
You fly free
while your body lies beneath the birdfeeder
just outside the window where you loved to sit.
Whatever other companions come my way
none will take your place.
