So Kiwi died this morning... and I have no idea why. He had gotten over his infection after a course of meds for 2 weeks, and over the last 3 weeks he had been going to the vet for weekly weigh ins. His weight was still low (he had lost alot), but it was consistently going up. His mood was great, he was perky, he played, he was being completely normal.
Last night he was out and about playing with Tipsy and even had a little cuddle with me. Which I thought was unusual, but didnt give it much thought. That was the only unusal thing about the whole night. This morning I went to wake him up and he was in his feed dish. I scooped him up and he was alive, but very listless. After deciding that I was going to skip my mandatory class I went to rush him to the vet only to discover that my tire was flat I hysterically called my parents who drove the hour to my house to come and help get him to the vet, but sadly he didnt make it that long.
Poor little guy. Something must have happened overnight - maybe he had a stoke or something. At least I feel I did all i could; he went to the vet regularly, had his meds and then passed a way with me cuddling him.
Awww that's so very sad...You really did all you could and he obviously knew you loved him to bits and as sad as it is, he went, with you cuddling him ....RIP Kiwi!
I have never lost a bird, though I did get attached to my Sister's one who had to be put to sleep...and I was heartbroken and only knew him fairly well for a few weeks. I didn't know I could fall in love with a bird and it was that reason why I went out and got Georgie.
I am very sorry to hear about your little Kiwi
You did everything that was possible and more. You clearly put Kiwi before yourself and that is great pet ownership
Please do not blame yourself, it was a tragic and sudden loss that could not have been prevented
Fly free little one.
I'm so sorry to hear about Kiwi. Maybe his little body just wasn't strong enough. You got to say goodbye to him. I'm sure that comforted him just to know that he wasn't alone.
Fly high and fly free little Kiwi.
I am so sorry for your loss. Take comfort that you did all you could and then some.
