Default We had Angel less than a month

Angel was a handfed cockatiel not a budgie but I hope it's OK to post here. She was my daughter's bird and died of a teeny puncture wound on her leg. The vet thinks she had hemophelia. She was still a bit skittish of us but gave kisses and nestled in our hair. She will be greatly missed.

That's terrible to hear. I'm so sorry.

I guess if it was haemophilia, it was bound to happen. There was no way she could have gotten through life without breaking a blood vessel at some point, whether it was from a minor internal injury like a bruise or snapping off a blood feather. There was nothing you could do in that circumstance.

Take care

My condolences. Ditto what vDavis said. You should let the breeder know, because if the vet is right, it is a genetic disorder. Was you cockatiel male or female. I know in people that females carry it, but males suffer from it. I got the impression though that with budgies, the males have the two different chromosones and the females have one. Maybe in that case it would be the males who carry it and the females who suffer.

So so sorry to hear that-- I know how hard it can be to let go. May she rest in peace.

Thanks for you condolences. You're right about her lifespan probably being shortened no matter what. I keep thinking things would have been different if I had known but I wouldn't have been able to protect her from everything.

I don't know if Angel was male or female. We decided to call her s she since all the other pets are male (2 budgies, 3 cats, 1 dog and 1 duck--all boys).

It does make me feel better knowing her short life was pretty happy and filled with love, good food and toys.

It is definitely okay to post about Angel here.

I am so sorry for your loss. She didn't seem to have much of a shot at life with her apparent genetic disorder. Poor little thing.

Do you think you will be letting the breeder know?

Fly high, fly free, fly forever Angel.
