Exclamation Really bad news about sky

hello everybody it's been such a long time but i have been very busy lately, how are you guys doing !?

me ... well meteor and sky had a really bad accident ! ... my little sister let one of my 6 cats in my bedroom to play with her on my bed while i was in school and when she got tired of playing with her, she forgot to put her out of the room..

my step dad was reading in his bedroom when my cat came to say hi and she was playing with a little budgie between her teeth ( putting lots of blood everywhere) my step dad tried everything to stop her and told me it was so hard to stand the agonysing screams of the little thing.

after a 15 minutes of horror the bird finally "shut down" and my step dad took it to burry it in the garden, it was sky.

meteor escaped from my cat because he was hiding under my bed and my cat is too big to reach under it. meteor had a bloody looking leg but it is all good now.

when i got into my bedroom after school there was blood everywhere even on my walls, my bed , and a lot in the cage.

feathers everywhere also and my cage was not on my desk but on the ground with a lot of broken stuff inside.

this happened a few days ago.

so i went to my local store to get some new toys and perches and feed bowls and i realised that i could not leave meteor alone after what happened.

so i bought him a friend.

i called him/her starlight ... i don't know the sex yet because the bird look too young to tell to me.

it is very wild and not trimmed ( flight feathers) ... im going to leave it like that because meteor 's flights feathers are not growing yet and i think it never will grow back i tried different products and stuff but it still doesn't grow.

the first night, starlight slept in a small cage next to meteor but since they were such good friend i put both of them in the same cage this early morning and they are really good friends ! no fights, they play with each other and everything , i even think that meteor likes more starlight than sky ( even though sky was his own brother) ! ...

ill post pictures of starlight later ..

thanks you guys for listening ..

Oh my goodness!
I am so sorry about Sky, thats terrible!

Although I do agree, Meteor might like to have a friend again.

So sorry to hear about Sky That must've been awful. Just wanted to say though that if Meteor's leg was bloody, even if she seems okay now, if cat saliva or teeth/claws got made contact with her at all, there's a really good chance that she could get an infection from it. I would take her to an avian vet just to be safe. This infection might also be spreadable to the new guy... which is why new budgies should be quarantined as well for future notice.

You should talk to your dad about putting some kind of lock on your door to keep the birds safe. Sorry to hear of your loss poor lil birdie.

If there is even the slightest chance that the other bird has had contact with a cat you need to get the bird on antibiotics urgently. Cats carry pasteurella which is lethal to birds and it will set in in 24 hours in most cases. Without antibiotics the bird will definitely die (if the cat bit) Good luck getting the bird to a vet as soon as possible and terribly sorry to hear about your loss.

i will go to an avian vet to check if the cut is caused by the cat... thank you for your advice and help.

Just a thought...but if you tell the vet that the bird had exposure to a cat when you are making the appointment, they will probably allow you to come in right away and put the bird on medicine...if they try to schedule an appointment for later, be sure to insist that it's an emergency and that your little bird needs to be seen immediately. Good luck and I hope everything is okay.

If you're going to bring Meteor to the avian vet, you might as well bring the new one to just to make sure theres no illnesses that you didn't see since a quarantine wasn't done. It would probably be the safest bet for both birds.

I'm sorry to hear about your poor little Sky. I have problems with my cats to, they're too curious, so I keep them out of the room at all costs. Luckily for me, there are no children here that don't understand the consequences of leaving the kitty with the birdies... Theres just 2 adults that know full well what will happen if the cats get in that room (especially my big orange spawn of satan cat). The lock sounds like a good idea, it can't do any harm. Heres hoping everything is okay with Meteor.
