Emerald

My budgie Emerald (girl) died last Friday. While I took it hard, Hunter (my male budgie) seems to be taken it harder. He is usually the social one. He is staying by himself (on top of the curtain rod). He's not as social with us as he used to be. Should I get another budgie to keep him company? We brought her home a week after he came home. She was a lot older than he.

I'm sorry to hear about the passing of Emerald :(
You can get Hunter a new friend but you MUST quarantine your new budgie- that is keep the new bird away from Hunter in a separate room for at least 30 days with no contact at all. This is done to prevent the transmission of diseases from one bird to another.
Once again, so sorry to hear about Emerald. Fly free little budgie.

I am so, so sorry about Emerald. I know how rough it must be for you :(

I'm sure Hunter would enjoy a new friend, but I think the most important thing right now is to figure out why (if you don't already know) Emerald passed away. If she was sick, he might also be. In any case, a vet check is a great idea right now. If you do get a new bird, like Zeena said, please quarantine for a minimum of 30 days in a separate room, in a separate cage. If Hunter is sick however I would wait until he is all better before bringing the new guy home :)

Please accept my sincerest condolences. I'm sure Hunter is going through the grieving process as well. A friend for Hunter is a great idea, but you have to take into consideration that a new budgie will need to go through quarantine as Zeena and Coco stated above.

R.I.P. Emerald

Sorry for your loss :( I too would get another and put it through quarantine first.

I am so sorry to hear of Emerald's passing.
Birds do mourn when one of their flock members pass away so Hunter will need some extra attention and love for the next little while.
I believe a new friend for him would be good for you both.

RIP Emerald

Thank you so much.

Amber I am so sorry.
Hunter is definitely mourning for Emerald. My Nicky took it really hard when he lost his friend. We had to go and get another one right away. It might seem harsh to get another one right away but when you consider the quarantine time Hunter will be ready I'm sure for a little friend.

It's never easy losing one of our little feathered friends.
I know you'll always have Emerald in your heart.

Fly high little Emerald. https://i319.photobucket.com/albums/m...ody/rose-1.gif
