Default Farewell Birdie

(First off I want to apologize for making such a grim topic my first post on this site...but I needed somewhere to spill this out and I've always read the forums here but never created an account)

My Budgie, uncreatively named Birdie, died in my hands last night. Over the course of 8 hours he went from appearing fine, to vomiting, to being unable to stand, and, finally, to dying while he lay cupped in my hands. You know, I don't think the image of him dying is going to leave my mind for a long, long time. He looked right at me before his breathing picked up and his little body started contorting in slow motion. I am crying just thinking about it...I hope he looked back in love and not betrayal.

This was my first pet I've owned that I truly bonded with (only ever had hamsters before this, and was never completely crushed when they died) and we've been together for around 8 years. I honestly don't know how to handle this right now. I spent a good portion of the day constantly thinking that I should go bring Birdie around with me...and every time it would hit me a split-second later that he's gone.

It pains me to say this, but I think I'm going to have to get a new bird soon because the house feels utterly empty and foreign without a little friend here with me. (I know this is Talk Budgies, but I think I might take on a Cockatiel this time...)

Anyways, that's all I have to say. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I'm really sorry to hear about Birdie. It is amazing how much these little guys can impact our lives, not only over the years but in a matter of days or hours too

That is truly sorrowing. If my bird were to die now (I've only had him for a week) I would be heart broken. I came home from work today and saw my door open. I went in and my bird's door was open and I panicked. I just about died. The back door was open, but then I saw him perched in his usual spot on the stained glass hanging in front of my window that gramps painted. I know the pain you feel. A new companion could help. It will never truly replace the one you've lost, but it helps to heal the hole =[
Hope you feel better soon.
