Default Goodbye Arti

I was just asking Robins advice on food changes that help halt chronic egg laying. I was just telling her of my fears. I almost wish I had never put the words into existance. This morning I took my beautiful Articuno to the vet to be put down. Like her sister before her, Arti's uterus prolapsed last night. It was her very last egg for this cycle. Being that I put Baby through the trama of surgury and she still died I did not wish to do that to my Articuno. The vet said she would not have been able to fix it anyway. It was the worst prolapse the doctor had ever seen.

I almost wished I had let her sit on the last set of duds but I thought she was sitting far too often and was getting a bit thread bare. The fact is that I knew this day would come but always hoped it would still be far off in the future. Two years is too short.

Arti I will always remember you. A little bird who at 2 weeks with few feathers could not wait to get out of the nest and climbed with much effort and tenacity each day to discover your new world. You taught your brother how to eat when mom kicked him out. He was so depressed and you saved him. You were feisty and bossy and fabulous. Although I never intended you to have a baby from the tons of eggs you laid, one got by me and now I am grateful. Each time I look at Twilight, I will remember you. From the time I saw your heart beat in an egg to a beautiful determined momma bird. I will miss you tremendously. I love you forever.

Oh, no hno: - I am so sorry. I feel like I knew Arti personally. Although you did everything you could, and then some, and despite knowing of the possible outcomes, I know that all of that doesn't make the pain any easier. Perhaps by having you verbalize it, God was preparing you to be able to make the most difficult decision any of us can make when it comes to our companions. I am so very sorry - sending hugs your way. Fly free, Arti - you were loved from the beginning to the end.

Thank you all. I think you may be right Robin, that God was preparing my mind. I still wish it weren't true. Not that they all aren't wonderful but she really was a very special girl. It is strange to walk in and not see her there busying herself at the bottom of the cage trying to prepare makeshift nests. It was both upsetting and adorable to see her work so hard despite my best efforts to convince her to stop laying. You would walk in and hear her busy at work or see her little tail feather just peek over the top of the cage bottom. She was as determined now as she was as a baby.

I remember the first time I saw her at the bottom of the cage. I thought Lila may have thrown her out of the nest. When I returned her, I found that was not the case at all. She just wanted to be out there and I would see her or hear the thud as she climbed out day after day. I remember turning the heat up to some hotter then heck degree for fear she would chill if I missed her leaving the nest. She was determined, tenacious, and loving right from the start. Even though I am still reeling from this mornings events, I am so happy to have been given the chance to be her person for the last two years. I would never ever want to have missed out on knowing her.

That was a very sweet goodbye. Everything will be okay, and as cheesy as it sounds, she will always be with you.

I know my puppy, Bailey, who died of parvovirus, is still with me to this day.

Keep her in your memory and never forget what a good friend she had been. She's alive to you, in your heart, and that's all that matters.

Thank you everyone. As I have said here before, no one can understand quite like another bird lover can.
