Well I can't believe how bad this has made me feel. I think it is the huge soft spot and love I have gotten from birds thanks to lil Mikey. It helps me vent to.
I am sad because I knew this was going to happen and a little frustrated.
My cousin received a bird for her son (my second cousin) I believe her son is 6. A finch. Well....how do I say this. This household isn't exactly where I would put a pet... She is kinda irresponsible with animals. Most pets she has had since she were little have died. She already had many cats (from not spaying or neutering) who breeded and had more cats and had more cats etc...And the kittens get outside run over almost daily it seems on her Facebook. Oh and own a dog too And the house isn't really clean.
I said to my mom right when I heard with every bit of seriousness...That bird will not make it a month from some sort of neglect. I hate to say I was right.
I tried to post friendly help hints on her account like feeding him other safe foods besides cheap wal mart seed....changing water...a little sunlight ...mist with a bottle....
I knew it would fall on deaf ears though =(
I don't think it has been a month. He died from being left outside in the freezing cold till 11pm till he was remembered..brought in shivering and died soon after.
Ugh....I feel so sad for that poor little finch out there shivering to death. Brings tears to my eyes and I never knew him. I wish I would have just begged her to give me the bird and convinced her she really couldn't handle it will 3 kids and a million cats but I didn't want to be mean because it is family.
Worst of all she won't tell her son...hoping he won't notice.
RIP Rex I hope you are nice and warm =( I wish I coulda come stole you off the porch.
What I don't understand is the not telling her son -hoping he doesn't notice.
I'm sorry sweetie and don't want to talk bad because as you said it is family, but that little boy wil never understand the value of life without knowing what happened and why it happened. I feel for him as well as Rex
So sad, I'm sorry that you are put in such a bad position. There are advantages to being an old bat like me - I WILL show up and take the bird off of the porch and raise the roof with the irresponsible family member and tell her kid too. Some people shouldn't have pets...ever...period. Thank you for caring - the little one is now safe and warm and free - and your good wishes towards him are known.

Thank you all so much! ^_^ It means a lot to have people who love these little guys like I have come to.
Things were not good for the little fella, he is DEFINITELY in a better place. I hope her dad doesn't get a replacement bird! (he is the type that would totally do that) She is not responsible enough and the same thing would happen...And I will go take it if he did! I have an extra cage now and everything.
