After trying very hard to get Barney back to his old self his suffering ended and he died yesterday morning. He'd been ill for a few months now with a cold that we were treating with medication the vet gave us.
We were pretty sure the illness was gone as he was increasingly becoming more active and had started eating but apparently it was the complete opposite. This really shouldn't have happened, he was only 2 years old I feel awful that I never had the time to add him to my banner
I know what the problem was. Barney was a rainbow budgie and severely inbred (I only found out afterwards during a vet check) He was a head smaller than the others, most of his nails were straight like witch's nails instead of curly like budgie's and he'd have to go into the vet cage every moult to make sure he got through it safely.
The vet told me he shouldn't have been that effected by the cold and proved it when we discovered my two others who were bred in my Nanna's aviary had stuff in their immune systems that made them get over it quickly.
I just wonder if I could have done something more? I'm sure I did everything I was told to do but it wasn't enough.
Birdbaby and Toni seem fine without him but then again they've not seen Barney for a month because he was in the vet cage
These were taken a while back, the one with the three of them is on my desk framed. I remember that one fondly. Barney kept swinging the roof perch which made the actual swing swing faster which Birdbaby (Also known as Speed) absolutely hated. I also love how Toni has that frown on her face while Barney looks all innocent from the top.
