I inherited Dotty Budgie about a year ago. Named Dotty by a previous parent because of his spots (and they thought he was a she), Dotty was a special needs bird. At some point in his past he'd had a stroke and had a difficult time getting around. Despite the difficulty, he was a trooper. He always kept up with the other birds regardless of what it took from him. He could fly, but not high and not far; he could climb, but not easily and not fast, he was like The Little Engine That Could. I could almost see him saying to himself, "I think I can, I think I can..."
It seems that this evening Dotty found a mountain he couldn't climb. After returning from a dinner out, I found Dotty on the floor of the flight, unusual but not unheard of. When I reached in to check on him, he didn't evade. That was the sign. We went to the emergency vet but his hours were numbered. We're uncertain as to why, but it seems that Dotty had another stroke, this was not one he was able to recover from.
I will miss you, courageous little budgie Dottie. . Finally you can fly high.
I am so sorry to hear about Dotty. A stroke comes on without warning. There would have not been much you could do for her at that point. If it was a stroke she would not have been in any pain so she went quietly.
Rest in peace little Dotty.
