Default RIP Pepper

Today is Valentines Day and our male budgie has just lost the love of his life, Pepper. She died about 30 minutes ago and we are all distraught. Bobby is whistling and head bobbing but I have left the body in for him so he knows she has gone. I cant beliieve it as she showed no signs of being ill, she was just a bit low because she was having a moult. Her poop, eating and drinking was normal, spying on the finches yesterday yet today she has gone, she was only 3. I loved her so much, she was such a character and Bobby idolised her!

Anyway, I have a few questions I hope you can all help me with.

1. How long should I leave the body there?
2. How long should I leave it before I get him a companion (I know all about quarantine). I just dont want to leave it too long or get one too soon. Bobby was depressed before Pepper came along, she brought him out of himself and so much happiness... now its all gone.

I will miss you so much my darling girl, fly high, fly free, we will remember you forever and Bobby will be lost without you.

Rest in Peace, sweet little Pepper. Keep her cute face and happy song close to your heart, and she will be with you forever. Poor Bobby will need your special love now.

Was looking for some support and/or answers to my questions, obviously Ive had none apart from the one kind person that offered their condolences. Very hard time for Bobby and me right now but I think its time for me to find another forum.

Hey, give us time! I just got on line today!

I know you are hurting, and bobby too. I'm so sorry, and to have such a sudden and unexpected loss seems to make it even worse in my opinion.

As far as your questions, I think Bobby knows. He may be doing what the rest of us do and try to coax her into not being dead, but he knows. I'd say you can safely take her little body away now.

I'd say if your heart can handle it, get a companion for Pepper going right away. Quarantine is going to take some time, so there's no need to stretch it out further than necessary for the lonely fellow. I wouldn't worry about appearance; the fact that the new bird will speak budgie will be sufficient.

Either male or female will do, and if you have a male, they will be bestest friends without worrying about egg laying and any inherent risks in that activity.

I know this is a sad day, and you have my sympathies.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss of little Pepper.

I agree that you can remove her body at this time.
Bobby knows in his heart she is gone...

I think Skye gave you great advice about going ahead and getting another budgie now. Since you'll need to quarantine for 4-6 weeks, there is no real reason to wait.

I have two males that get along great, but you can go with either a female or a male -- whichever suits you best.

Rest in peace, sweet Pepper -- Fly high and Free wee girl.

I am soo sorry for your loss. I hope this transition for Bobby is not too much on him. Maybe if he can hear the chirps of a new budgie... (during the quariantine) will make it easier on him.

How Heartbreaking. I am so sorry to hear this. RIP dear Pepper. Sadly, sometimes birds never show any signs that something is wrong until it is too late

I would get a new bird, but research and make sure the bird is from a good place before you get it. Doesnt matter if its a male or female. Being Healthy is important and yes, Quarantine. Put the new bird in another room but make sure the birds can hear each other. I wish you all the best and once again, please accept my condolences on the loss of dear Pepper.
