Default Joni RIP

Two weeks ago today we lost our beloved Joni at the age of 10 years and 1 month. She was a sweetheart and very, very gentle. Her most recent molt was just too much for her to handle at her age of being a grand old lady. When I first brought her home she was so young we couldn't tell her sex and her circe kept changing colors from brown to purple to blue so we held off giving her a name until she made her decision as to what she was. My wife first said to her, "You are one very lucky bird." That's because we have a knack for our budgies living long, healthy lives barring any kind of catastrophic illness. Within 5 days we had a new bird who appears to be very happy here. JB (Jackson Browne - I name all of our birds after singers we like)) is blue and is a rescue bird from the RISPCA shelter - our first rescue bird. He's very young, lively, and is a non-stop chatterbox - he "talked" the whole ride back from RI to the Cape - probably telling me his life story. I've always bought birds from breeders, independent pet stores, or the big box pet stores. When I've bought from the big box stores I always considered that a form of rescue because I was getting the bird out of that environment and into a home where he/she would have a long life. Doing a shelter rescue is a new experience and a very good feeling. I plan on JB being around for a very long time.

Sorry for your loss. Glad to hear that you have a new birdie friend who is so grateful to you I am sure! Lucky little bird to come to a home where it will be loved and cared for.
Rest in Peace Joni.

Blessings to little Joni during the next phase of her journey.
Fly high and free sweet girl -- now you are young again!

Jackson does sound like a little character.
I look forward to hearing all about him and hopefully seeing some pictures of him soon.

Thank you for sharing that experience. Joni (Mitchell, I'm guessing?) was indeed a lucky little bird to have found her
way into your hands. She lived a long life with much love,
and that is a huge gift for a budgie. My sympathies for her
loss.

But the bright side of this is that to honor Joni and the love
you have for her, you went right out and found another
budgie who so desperately needed it. He'll never replace
Joni, of course, but what greater honor to her memory than
to let another in need budgie fill her space for a time.

Hugs, sympathy, good vibes, and positive energy to both of you, Joni, and the new J.B.

The other
