I'm so sorry that happened. You just never know what is
going to trigger somebody into a snap or other strange
behavior. I've even had my dog eat a litter of newborn
kittens, which totally floored me. We don't think the way
the dogs do. Cats and horses I can predict, but I find this
sudden shift from lazy old dog to predator totally unexpected
each time it happens, and I cannot understand what triggers
it. I'm sure you didn't expect it either. Life just happens.
We can wish for "do-overs" We can relive it over and over
again looking for some sign, but the truth is things just
happen. We live. We learn. We move on. I hope you can
reach that understanding for yourself. Yes, it might have
been prevented, but you didn't know there was anything
to prevent! You had no warning. The dog was gentle when
there was previous interaction. It was a tragic accident.
I feel there is no blame to you. Please be kind to yourself,
and try to comfort little Pearl as well. You both need each
I'm so sorry. I'm glad you still have Pearl.
Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. And never regret anything that made you smile.
