Default Bye Baby Blue, Bye Little Silver.

We were just starting to really bond, you and your sister Pearl. She still is stubborn and scared from the incident, but I'm doing what I can to comfort her.

I shouldn't have left your door open, even for a minute, when I knew I had to leave the room. Yes the dogs and you got along perfectly, but that was no excuse. It's my fault you're gone now, and I take full responsiblity for that.

Pearl will be safe, I promise.

Very sad
We lost a hamster to one of our cats a year ago. Her door must have been left open and she decided to go exploring. She was such a great little gal, even played ball. We miss her a lot.
We were very mad at ourselves, and the cat, but ultimately its a fact of life that owning prey and predator is risky. She died quickly and we are thankful for that.
Your heart will heal with time and the guilt does subside. We've not made the same mistake since.

I am so sorry! Rip little Silver and Baby Blue!

You are right, that is no excuse! But don't go hard on yourself, you didn't mean it! It's another lesson learned the hard way.

Fly high little sweeties!

I'm so sorry that happened. You just never know what is
going to trigger somebody into a snap or other strange
behavior. I've even had my dog eat a litter of newborn
kittens, which totally floored me. We don't think the way
the dogs do. Cats and horses I can predict, but I find this
sudden shift from lazy old dog to predator totally unexpected
each time it happens, and I cannot understand what triggers
it. I'm sure you didn't expect it either. Life just happens.

We can wish for "do-overs" We can relive it over and over
again looking for some sign, but the truth is things just
happen. We live. We learn. We move on. I hope you can
reach that understanding for yourself. Yes, it might have
been prevented, but you didn't know there was anything
to prevent! You had no warning. The dog was gentle when
there was previous interaction. It was a tragic accident.
I feel there is no blame to you. Please be kind to yourself,
and try to comfort little Pearl as well. You both need each
other tonight.

I'm so sorry. I'm glad you still have Pearl.
