Default My Bird Baby died unexpectedly the other day

hey everyone. I actually joined so that I could mourn a little with people who understand....I told a couple of friends but they snickered over the fact that I was so sad that my bird died. I lost my bird the other day. I had noticed the day before that he was sneezing a little..the next morning this progressed to wheezing...(he did though still have a good appetite) I called the vet and they told me they couldn't see him till 2:30pm...this was 9 in the morning. I waited till 11, but was worried his breathing would deteriorate so I found a vet that specialized in birds and had an emergency room 35 minutes away my home....so I bundled him in the car and off we went. He seemed distressed during the drive and his breathing seemed to get worse. When we arrived the vet took him in right away, while I opened his file....not 2 minutes later did they come out and tell me that he went into cardiac arrest when they tried to take him out to examine him. I was devastated and felt so responsible...I knew he was wheezing, but I didn't think he would die. I fear that the drive stressed him out and then having strangers take him away and then try to grab him to examine him caused him to pani c (on top of his laboured breathing) causing him a heart attack ( I felt like I let him down. I only got him in March and we were bonding so well...anyways...just needed to vent. he was gentle and beautiful...and I was not ready to say goodbye so soon

I am so sorry! You will find a lot of people here to relate to, like me. You did what you could, and I bet the little guy is grateful for that. Next time, as soon as you notice something, have it checked out. I wasn't able to do that with my Drini until the very end, and he passed soon after. My parents are so restrictive sometimes! Well, Rip little guy! Keep in mind while you are in the clouds that you will always be remembered and loved. You will never be forgotten!

Is it possible to do a neurocropsy? That way, if you get another budgie, you could try and prevent this from happening again.

I'm so sorry you lost your dear Baby. Please don't blame yourself, though. Seeking the care of a vet was the only thing to do in that situation, and you acted responsibly. May he rest in peace. Like the others said, get a necropsy done, if you can; sudden breathing issues were probably caused by an environmental factor, possible something in the air. If you can figure out what it is and fix it, you could prevent this happening to another birdie, and possibly eliminate something in the air that could be bad for you, as well.

Also, welcome to the forum. You're among friends here.

I'm so sorry to hear about your baby bird , my 8 month old bird died this week and I too have had the strange looks , like what's the problem it's just a bird . Why can't people understand it hurts as much as loosing a cat or a dog ! I really understand how you are feeling.
