Well, on sunday mum thought Lily was looking a bit inactive: not fluffed up, but just not doing a lot at all. She was still eating, but that was about it. She had a lot of water in her droppings too, which mum was concerned about. Anyway, sunday evening, mum went to put the budgies to bed and realised Lily was half lying on the perch, so she took her out and put her in the hospital cage, and slept with her in the spare room with the space heater on. Monday morning, Lily was a lot worse, not using her legs, lying on the floor. We called our avian vet, he wasnt in until thursday, so we took her to our local vet, thinking that she might have to be put to sleep (if any of our budgies cannot use their legs, in our experience, they dont have much time left ). The vet suspected chlamydia, and gave us antibiotics for her, and also said to put stevie (her mate) in with her.
We did this, and got her to drink the medicated water too. I stayed at mums in the morning to keep an eye on her, and mum was home in the afternoon to watch her too. Stevie was a pain, Lily was 'begging' for him to feed her like a chick, but he thought she wanted to mate, we ended up taking him out as lily just wanted to be left alone. She wasnt eating at all yesterday, even though we tried millet. So yeah, last night she passed away
We have put medicine in the other 3's water, they will continue the course for the full 45 days as no doubt they are harbouring the disease too, if Lily was. The thing is, Lily has had watery poo before, and i am sure we medicated her for it, but for some reason it came back, maybe we didnt give her the full 45 days (as we didnt suspect chlamydia back then). The vet has even seen her since and commented that she was a healthy bird. She got tired out easier than the others, she never flew or played quite as much as the others, we just thought it was her personality, we didnt think she might be sick
And it is a bit ironic, when we bring in new budgies we always strictly quarrantine them in case of illness, we never really thought about our own having illnesses themselves.
Well, she had almost 6 years with us, and she was always such a sweet girl. She didnt have a mean bone in her body, at least towards mum and i. She was a quiet girl, but you could usually get her to start chatting to you if you initiated the conversation and i think, while she was not so active, she was a happy girl anyway. She was very loved by her mate stevie too.
We will miss you sweet lily xx

I am sorry to hear about your loss Erika. Remember the good times you and your mum had together with Lily and she will always be with you in your hearts. She was a sweet little bird. May she fly high and free until the day you are reunited over the rainbow bridge.

RIP sweet little feathered one.

Dear sweet Erika,

You hv enough of these bad news. It is so unfair that kind hearted person like u hv to face this.

Being your flock, Lily was so lucky, being protected in the good house, she still manage to enjoy beautiful nature like the wild. She was so lucky, she was fulfilled in any aspects.
I m sure she will tell Alice & Roger the reccent gossips they had.
She will be dearly missed.

I hope Badger n Morrie will include the poor Stevie.

Mum said stevie won't leave badger alone, he keeps trying to chat him up
Connie, you made me smile, to think of Lily telling alice and roger the gossip
First alice, then roger, then pidgey (although not unexpected), now Lily... we feel like we should have done something sooner. Lethargy is a sure sign of a sick budgie, we should have taken her to a vet last week and insisted they run tests it seems like they always get sick on the weekends when there arent avian vets avaliable

Oh my goodness....Erika....no. I am so sorry. Chlamydia is so tenacious and budgies are just so good at hiding illness. Ugh! I'm happy to hear you are giving your other budgies treatment just in case. What a sweet pic of Lily. She was beautiful!

Erika,

I'm so very sorry for your loss of beautiful sweet little Lily.

I know that Lily is with Alice, Roger, and Pidgey now.
They have their own special little flock at the Rainbow Bridge where they are looking out for one another as well as watching over you, Badger, Morrie, Stevie, Lenny, Lollie and SweetPea.

Many loving thoughts are being sent to you today--
