My country's political situation isn't good...they held a strike all day today and I was supposed to attend an exam, which was postponed in the evening.
During these strikes people who go out risk getting burned alive.
My exam was going to be held quite far away from home so I left yesterday to stay over at my aunt's place who lives there. Before I left I gave the birds food and water. It's so hot here, so I left the ceiling fan on for Winter and Emmett and Autumn.
Sky and Vanilla were in a different room.
I got home today after around 25 hours, and checked up on Winter and Emmett and Autumn. They looked fine.
Then I saw a shocking scene. Vanilla was lying inside my room right next to my door! She looked like she'd die any moment. I didn;t know how that happened, I lifted her up and she could barely stand. She perched on my finger and I noticed she bled a lot through her nose and she was lighter than she was a day ago. Her vent held a huge pile of hard poop.
I rushed her to the bathroom to clean her up. She just got weaker.
Then I wondered about Sky,since vanilla was out of the cage...my brother yelled from their room to say that Sky was missing. I left Vanilla in the bathroom to look for Sky, he wasn't in their room, nor in mine.
I rushed to my brother's room which is quite far away from Sky and Vanilla's room, and the lights were out. I called out to him and he replied to me with a chirp. I turned on the light and my brother noticed him sitting on the curtain rod. I put him back in his cage. Then I went to help Vanilla...but she was already gone.
It felt like she stayed alive so that I could see her alive for the last time. She probably hit the ceiling fan or perhaps died due to her illness, but she was a lot healthier than Sky.
I noticed her nostrils were both blocked and there was a strip of bloodstain originating from a nostril to her head like a scar.
I washed her, and dug out a grave for her on the terrace where my uncle grows some plants. I told her what a pretty bird she was, thanked her for everything, and said goodbye.
Sky is lonely now...it was such an unfortunate event.
I don't know how they managed to open the cage door. They've never done this before.
Rashu this is awful news I'm so sorry you lost your dear Vanilla! I'm sure you were in a complete panic. It sounds like she did hold on so that you could hold her and say goodbye before she went to rest. Maybe the comfort you offered allowed her to relax and let go. It's a very sad way to lose a sweet little friend.
Rashu, I am so very sorry. It must have been such a shock to find her that way, but she stayed to say goodbye. She must love you very much, and I know you love her. That love will last forever, even if she is gone. She was well cared for, and could not have had a better life anywhere. She was a lucky bird to have lived with you.
Budgies are so very clever, and will always surprise us with their ways to manipulate their cages and other things. It's just part of their curious and clever nature, no fault to you. It's just so sad that this first excursion on her own ended in tragedy. I'm glad that Sky survived.
I send you much sympathy tonight. I know your heart hurts. But Vanilla is flying free with our growing colony of loved ones at The Bridge, waiting for you.
p.s. I've VERY glad you didn't get burned alive! How horrible. I can't imagine that kind of violence in my sleepy little town.

Oh Rashu - I am sorry sad to hear about your beautiful little Vanilla. What a terrible accident. You did everything you knew to do, and there was apparently really no way you could know they could open their door (sort of like Deb, with Sunny). Please don't blame yourself - you are not a careless budgie owner, but deeply loving and dedicated.
May your lovely little Vanilla rest in peace.
I'm glad Sky is OK - I know you will both miss her, but at least you have each other, and the other birdies.
Unending Thanks, Ms FaeryBee, for the Absolute Perfect Picture!
Rashu, when I read your story it made me sad.....I am so sorry for your loss but most importantly I am glad that you are safe with all that is going on there! We have a saying in our family "people before pets!" That's not to say that we don't LOVE our pets
because believe me WE Do- but I pray that God will keep you and your family safe!
