Default Lucky Bird

This will be my last post on this forum. My green and yellow budgie, Lucky, died a couple of weeks ago and I'm not getting another one. He was 14 years old and we had him from 12 weeks old. He was a pip, like most budgies - he mimicked lots of sayings and even my laugh - the first time I heard it, I was stunned - "That's me!!!" It was so funny! One day, he flew to the back of the couch and peered down at my son and our little dog, Trixie, and said in his little bird voice, "Do you wanna die?!?" My son used to say that all the time to our dog because he thought it was funny - she always perks up her ears when she hears, "Do you wanna..." It was so funny - we 'bout nearly peed our pants from laughing. He was a lovey and very sociable, which I hear they tend to be more of when they're only birds. He loved to ride in the car and the last time I moved, he rode with me in the moving truck and sang and chirped the whole way, in the dark! He was eating and drinking right up to the end and stopped perching just the night before he died (in the early morning). I was glad he didn't have a prolonged, drawn-out old age, or that I would have to make a painful decision. He had problems with his feet and I tried everything - they were getting better, but he was tipsy and couldn't fly anymore. I called it "falling with style", like Buzz Lightyear...lol He was cheerful when I covered him that night and puffed up like he always did when I spoke to him. Bye, Lucky - I hope you can fly now...

Pam,
I'm so very sorry for your loss. Lucky had a very long and happy life with you and I'm sure your memories of your happy times with him will bring you much joy.

Fly high and free now little Lucky -- rest peacefully at the Rainbow Bridge.

We fall so hard for these little guys, loosing them is devastating.
Quote:
From Alfred Lord Tennyson's poem In Memoriam:27, 1850:

I hold it true, whate'er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.
I still remember a bird I lost as a child so I understand why you say you won't buy another. I guess as they say "only time can heal a broken heart".

Default Thank you all...

I was touched by the responses I received here after posting about Lucky - I knew that of all places, this would be a place where I could post my story and grief and I would be understood.

Thank you all for responding - it made me feel better to know there are caring people out there.

Aww I always cry when I read about people's losses! I'm sorry to hear about losing Lucky. He sounds very special. I'm crying twice as hard right now because I lost my Stitch this morning. Unknown reasoning rest in peace Lucky and stitch!
