Unhappy Fly Free in Budgie Heaven..my lil girl Chik

I am so sad. My lil girl 5 year old, Chik passed away late last night. She suddenly started showing she was ill sometime around 4pm. She had thrown up what I thought were seeds and then I later realized it was a clear dirty liquid. I thought maybe she had eaten something spoiled, however her symptoms changed. I started seeing that both her wings were fanned open as if she was overheated, and both were trembling/uncontrollably shaking constantly. It was then I knew something was much more seriously wrong. I gave her some diluted water with Braggs ACV in the meantime and tried to keep quiet so she could rest. I didnt know if I should keep her warmer or let her cool offf as her wings were open and she looked miserable. I also saw both her feet were redder and swollen looking..my poor Chik.

My avian vet had already closed and it was too late to go in since its 1 hour away. I planned to take her first thing in the morning. However, she kept stumbling, and I knew she was having some mini seizures or strokes as she continued to shake and throw up, and she let me pick her up...she kept trying to crawl on the carpet under the bed and into corners to hide..She didnt want any of us to see her die...I think she knew it was the end and that was going to hide to die...I feel so awful...the way she passed so quickly....she was always over weight so I think she had some kidney disease/failure/stroke.

Now my poor male, Bubu is over 5.7 years old..they were together for over 5 years side by side..this morning he is calling for her and I dont know what to do...since he is older, i dont know if i should get him a new friend later on...the pain is so difficult...If i were to find him a new friend, I'd want her to be older too so they would be around the same age...but at the same time, I dont want to go through this pain over and over each time with a different budgie. I look at them as if they are my kids, and I am really their mom.

Chik was the cleverest, meanest, funniest little girl budgie. She enjoyed being lazy and putting Bubu in his place.....I love and miss her so much! Fly high and free lil sweet girl...I plan to bury her outside the window near where Bubu is in his cage....RIP my little sweet girl...I miss u so much and cant stop crying for you...Bubu misses u too...

Here is a youtube video that pretty much sums of their love/hate relationship. Chik is the mean one, Bubu is the desperate in love one.. :

I am so sad and sorry for your loss. I know how heartbroken you are, and it's more than OK to cry as much as you need to. Our little budgies are as big in our hearts as any other creature or even person.
May your darling little Chik rest in peace, and fly free forever; and may you be comforted in your happy memories of that wonderful little girl. I pray Bubu will be OK - I don't know whether you should get him a companion or not - just watch him, and stay open for possibilities - don't make any hasty decisions at this moment

Thank you for your kind words.

I still cant believe just yesterday morning she was alive and happy...and in a matter of few hours she was gone....everytime i look over at their big cage...I keep looking for her...The pain is so strong. Goodness I cant believe how much it hurts...I lost my dad a month after I got married, and I feel just as much pain with losing Chik...these budgies were my babies...

I'm so sorry for your loss, and for Bubu's. If he doesn't seem to be in better spirits after a couple of weeks, maybe you could consider adopting another middle-aged budgie? I don't know about you, but I always see unwanted birds on Craigslist...

As sad as this post made me, though, I had to laugh at that adorable video.
