Default R.I.P Trouble

Trouble is the blue one.

"Trouble" has died.

I don't understand it, she seemed perfectly normal yesterday, chirping, played ect. Then in the evening she was sleeping a lot more than usual. Budgies may take a nap but this was for a few hours before I went to bed. I figured she was just tired. I uncovered the cage this morning to find "trouble" dead at the bottom. That sure happened fast. She had no signs of injury or sickness prior. She was just a little older than 1.5 years.

The more sad part is her cage mate "peanut" that is all now alone, and still very quiet and looking around the cage

Sadness aside. Any ideas what could cause such a sudden death? Their cage was cleaned on a schedule, they lived on a diet of Roudybush, zupreem fruit blend flavor, and seed some days, and sometimes vegetables. They had no access to anything unusual yesterday.

EDIT: a few times she awoke from her deep sleep and yawned to a high pitch squeak. And even went and ate a little. Whatever she had, as least she didn't suffer for days. Perhaps not even at all if she just felt really tired, then went into a permanent sleep.

I since transferred "Peanut" to the small auxiliary cage while the normal big one will have to be thoroughly cleaned, just in case. Peanut looks well and shows all the signs of a "healthy bird" as per the one thread on this forum. She seems to want attention more now with Trouble gone.

I am sorry for your loss. The only way to get some real idea of what went wrong is to have had a necropsy.

I am so sorry. Peanut will miss Trouble and will all call for her. He doesn't understand why she is no longer there.
I have had a budgie die suddenly. It could have been a stroke or her little heart.

Rest in peace Trouble.

Thank you for the well wishing all. Trouble will be missed. The sudden unexpected death is a little worrisome as well. Could I uncover the cage one morning to find Peanut dead? I guess one is never to know. There was one other thing about trouble which is probably nothing but I sometimes wondered about. Her eyes never seemed as large as most budgies, or maybe didn't open as far. The light area around the eye was not really visible and she had just always been that way. Its probably nothing but I sometimes wondered if it could be a sign of poor genetics or something. All in all for Trouble, I guess I can say I'm glad she had a quick unexpected death rather than a long drawn out agonizing one that may have taken days or weeks...etc.

Though trouble can't be replaced, we don't want Peanut to be sad and all alone. Especially when I get back to working, the house is often empty for 10-12 hours a day which is not fair for a lone bird. That's actually the biggest reason we bought 2 in the first place.

We picked up another female from the budgie bin were the First 2 originally came from. Still unnamed as of yet. To us she stood out in the group of 30 or so birds. Looking a little like trouble, however she has a unique purple tint to her blue color. In the bin she was highly active, mischievous, let us pet her a little before running away (where as most budgies don't let you get close), and she has nice big eyes.

Currently the new bird is in the quarantine process, and seemed much less afraid moving in here than our first 2 birds did. Even on the first full day here she would come to the front of the cage to see us and do the "happy budgie stretch." Hopefully she lives long and healthy.
