My Perry boy was a brother to my male budgie, Cricket. He passed away November 5. His death was tragic, and I find myself partly to blame. My two cousins, who are aged 5 and 3, love my budgies, and they come over frequently to play with them. They came over one day, and my aunt asked if they could take Perry home to spend the night at their house, since he was the tamest out of all 3 of my budgies, and my cousins just adored him. I told her of course. As they carried Perry and his mobile cage out to their car, I told them to take good care of him. I didn't know that would be the last time I ever saw Perry. The next morning, they came back to my house, without bringing Perry back. I asked them where he was, and my uncle told me these exact words: "We lost him. The cat got him." I had forgotten that they had recently gotten a cat. "She was in the house while Perry was out of the cage." My uncle's face remained expressionless. "But we got a two budgies for the boys (my cousins)." I ran to my bedroom, closed my door, and looked at my remaining budgies. I wasn't upset that my cousins got budgies of their own as a result of my Perry being killed by their own cat... I was just upset beyond belief that my little boy had crossed the Rainbow Bridge too early in life.
I miss you, Perry. Visit me in a dream one day.
I empathize anyone who has lost their budgie. They are so hard to let go.
