I was just reading a article about Blackface budgies by Didier Mervilde. I think it is safe to say they are probably one of the rarest

yeah, Chimera! half and half's, although thinking about it, that's a genetic fluke not a mutation I guess! whats the rarest YOU'VE been lucky enough to breed? :-) im inclined to agree on the red mutation or the new black/white face/cap, I've not seen anything solid on the red though, not yet anyway, not that I've looked hard lol

Not sure what you mean by purples budgies, but violet are not what I would consider rare. The only way you can get a red budgie is to dye it, as a mutation it is impossible.

If by chimera you mean half-sider then they aren't technically a mutation. It is caused by a congenital condition. Common belief is it is caused by twins embryo joining early in gestation giving a single bird two sets of DNA.

yeah, I did put two and two together right after I thought of it, as I said, Chimera is exactly what you say it is :-) , but I think we can all agree BEAUTIFUL!!! I didn't think red mutation was obtainable, probably why I never found much on it, would be amazing though! hehehe :-)

I have a violet, it's not so rare.. Albinos are a little rare in my country. I would say the anthracites are more rare to find.
Red mutations don't exist in budgies.
