Do I have what it takes?
5 Attachment(s)
Do I currently have the birds it would take for a rainbow? If not what do I need to add?
|
A true rainbow is a blue based budgie with opaline, clearwing and yellowface :) You have two components of the rainbow mutation I can, which is opaline and blue.
You will need in addition a yellowface and clearwing or fullbody greywing, unless by chance some of your birds are already split for these things... which is impossible to know without pedigrees on them :) |
Are you talking about pairing up your birds and their genetics would produce a rainbow? Or do you mean just lining them up makes a rainbow? Because you have some very pretty budgies!

[QUOTE=sammyIam;1849306]I will be receiving their pedigrees soon and can update here so which is the opaline? Sorry I am such a noob I will check out your site to see what a yellow face and clearwing are.
Your grey female budgie is opaline. |
Do
A rainbow is a composite bird and one of the hardest mutations to consciously produce. Breeders in ABS or BAA may be able to give you a few tricks. See their web sit and ask for help from any breeder with rainbow experience. I have had many '3's' But getting that 4th in a competitive show bird is hard.
Dan Schultes in Iowa breeds them. See contact info for breeders/board members on BAA site. I currently have a yellow face, opaline, sky white dilute that could fool a novice but it does not have clear wings. nor is it a grey wing It was a tantalizing gift as a chick as the line that produced it had it hidden. Sunny Sky is a favorite of visitors and has fooled more than a few wishing for a rainbow. Best wishes, Jo Ann:budgie: |

Looks like a lovely cobalt dominant pied.
This is what a clearwing looks like: Blue https://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/...ps640a5325.jpg Green https://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/...ps38d3e13e.jpg |
Is it the solid color from head down the back that makes them a clearwing?

Yes, with solid body color.
Here's Lindsey's guides to learning what makes a clearwing https://cutelittlebirdiesaviary.weebl...g-budgies.html https://cutelittlebirdiesaviary.weebl...g-budgies.html |
