Default Question about Goldenface

In the Gencalc it says that chicks from a pairing where one of the parents is goldenface will result in 100% of the chicks being goldenface. Is that accurate? Meaning that once you breed goldenface into a line, it's impossible to breed it out?

I think this is only the case if it is a Double Factor Goldenface, but they will only produce Single Factor GF. If it is a SF then only 50% will be GF and they will be SF.

As of today I have 3 two days old chicks from pair of GF cock and normal Grey hen, in a week I would be able to let you know for sure what the coloring outcome is

See that's what I thought Li, gencalc is so helpful but it's not 100% accurate and I'm never sure what to believe.

Plus I haven't found a way to even select if the budgie is df or sf golden/yellowface on the calculator which creates problems

What calculator are you using, if you do not mind me asking? I agree with what everyone else has said regarding the sf/df outcome differences!

That's good! I was hoping it was wrong

I'm using https://www.gencalc.com/gen/eng_genc.php?sp=0Budg
I'm not sure if there simply isn't a way to select sf/df yf/gf or I'm just not seeing it

If you use the "split to" option they have for the goldenface it is the same thing in the outcome as sf, and it works out to the right percentages from what I added just now

And technically I suppose it is more accurate when you use the "split for" with green birds, since they are essentially a green bird split for yellowface blue from the latest have seen published about it

I admit I have never managed to work out that calc. I have gone back to grids and checking with Lindsey's sites to make sure I have expectations for each mutation right. Takes longer but at least I understand it

Ok so I set the hen to goldenface split for blue and that came out accurately (50/50 gf/normal). If I just set it split for goldenface I couldn't select the bird as blue so I got a bunch of green results and neither parent is green. Is that what I was meant to do?

Is there any way to tell if a grey bird is sf grey or df grey? Also is there any accurate way to tell if she has any dark factors?

I was trying to see the results of pairing my TCBs Medley and Birch. I'm not even sure they would work as a pair because he is smaller than her but I'm trying to decide if it's even worth letting them have a go. I have lots of time to think about it but the curiosity has the better of me I think he's quite a few months older than her so I'll probably pair him up with someone else first.

Thanks so much Lindsey

I found the calc before I found TB so I didn't know there was any other way to do it for a long time. I think I understand it pretty well but there are a few things that have me stumped. Like the x1 x2 for sex-linked mutations and trying to figure out gf/yw. Instructions would have been good
