Default Rainbow?

I was at pet store today getting dog food and saw this little guy with budgies. Can someone tell me if this is a rainbow if not what mutation is it. I really want a rainbow and an all grey, especially now that I am looking to have an indoor aviary, but 6 will be my limit.

His tail is really dark blue at the tip. Thanks in advance for any help and sorry for horrible phone pics, little guy kept moving.

Looks like it's missing the opaline part. Yellowface II cobalt fullbody greywing would be my guess. Might even be a Mauve, it's very dark.

The front of his chest was green, the top part. Thanks , I will hold off and wait for a rainbow, maybe do a extended search for a breeder. Just feel bad for these little guys at the pet store.

His chest is green because the yellow mixes with the blue. That's normal for a yellowface budgie. Finding a true rainbow isn't easy. You could search for years and not find one, not too many people breed them and it's unlikely to find one by accident. I wish you luck though!!

Broke my heart to leave him there, I still have to wait to have aviary built, I don't want to go back to 3 cages.

Thanks, I didn't realize they were that uncommon. I'm not breeding nor showing, so this little guy/girl would have been close enough in my book, but I have to wait until I get proper setup for more than 4 keets, hope she/he's still available.

I agree with you, but the head seems very bright yellow so i would say Goldenface instead, Greywing, but also maybe SPLIT to Clearwing so it could be FBC Greywing as it also have dark blue body and also cheek patches are dark Violet. FBC stands for Full Body Colour. FCB Greywing is when it has the Greywing gene and it is SPLIT to Clearwing gene.

It has too much Darkness so i think is a Mauve and might also have a Violet factor as the colour is quite rich, but by viewing the tail colour i don't think it has any violet factor at all.

Yes the budgie is not an Opaline.

For producing more Rainbow babies i would mate this with a Goldenface-Opaline-Clearwing to produce females with visual Opaline and male babies will have SPLIT to Opaline.

i LOVE the bold colour she has.

Please note that for better identifications of mutations it is best if you take a lot of different angles of photos in natural daylight.
